Purpose: Use this job aid as a reference to tactics you can use to encourage intrinsic motivation,
Intrinsic motivators can fit into three categories: they relate to the leadership strategies of involvement, validation, or
development, which in tun are associated with the higher-order needs of participation and belonging, self-esteem, and self-
actualization, Not every individual will be motivated by all of these things. Each individual has different needs and therefore
different motivators. Keep in mind that there may be overlap between motivators and the higher-order needs they fulfil. For
instance, "sense of personal accomplishment” could fit in all three categories.
