R.E.A.D.

Constitution

Article I: Name
Our club will be called: R.E.A.D.
Article II: Purpose/Goals
Section I. Make textbooks more accessible so students can be more successful.
Because Reading and Education can help shape and Advance Dreams, develop and achieve
goals, and open new futures for communities through individuals and families, we wish to
promote both reading and education in the Los Medanos Community,
Section II. with minimum impact on Los Medanos College staff and faculty,
Section III. while developing leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
Section IV. Efforts may include but are not limited to: increasing the number of borrowable textbooks;
facilitating text donations; creating a perpetual textbook-purchase-loan-fund; and promoting
books/reading.
Article III: Membership
Section I. *Only currently registered students may be active members in a registered student organization.
Only active members may vote or hold office.
Section II. Unless otherwise specified, member refers to active members.
*We will not haze according to California State Law; we will not restrict membership based
upon ethnic group identification, race, color, ancestry, religion, marital status, sex, national
origin, gender, gender identification, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or
mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, military or veteran status, parental
status, or citizenship.
Furthermore, club members will adhere to the rules and policies in the Los Medanos College
Student Code of Conduct.
Section III. Members unable to vote (at meetings/via email) become Associate members.
Article IV: Officers/Elections
Section I. The officers [and their duties] may include, but are not limited to: (Co-)President(s) [prepare
agenda, chair meetings]; Vice-President [assist/act-in-lieu-of President(s)]; (Co-)Recording
[take/prepare minutes] and (Co-)Corresponding Secretaries; (Co-)eCommunications Officer(s);
(Co-)LMCAS liaisons(s); (Co-)Event and Publicity Coordinator(s) [varies with event]; (Co-)Election
Recorder(s) [contact for email voting]; (Co-)Treasurer(s) [change for events, deposits, financial
reports]; (Co-)Historian(s); and (Co-)ICC Representative(s) [represent at/report from Monday
ICC meetings].
Section II. All officers must be R.E.A.D. members and have at least a 2.0 GPA.
Section III. Officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote of members.
Section IV. The term of office shall be until the Spring semesters election.
Section V. Officers may be removed or replaced by a majority vote of club members.
Article V: Meetings
Section I. The club will meet biweekly during the semester.
Section II. There may be special meetings if members are notified via email or Meeting Minutes no less
than 48 hours prior to the meeting.
Section III. Quorum requires at least three members, and the meeting Chair may vote only to break a tie.
Article VI: Finances and Banking
Section I. All monies shall be banked at Los Medanos College.

Section II. At this time, there are no club dues.
Article VII: Constitutional Amendments
Section I. Any member may propose an amendment, which must be seconded by another member for
consideration.
Section II. Constitutional Amendments may be proposed only during the first meeting of each month.
Section III. Members shall be notified via e-mail that constitutional amendments have been
proposed/seconded no less than 48 hours before the scheduled vote.
Section IV. Constitutional Amendments will need a 2/3 majority vote of members to pass.
Section V. *All amendments, additions or deletions must be filed with the Office of Student Life within one
week of adoption.
Article VIII: Dissolution
Section I/II. The club may be dissolved per a majority vote of members.
Section III. If the club is inactive for two years (which may lead to closure of the club account) or dissolved,
all unspent funds shall be transferred to the LMC Foundation for the textbook-purchase-loan
fund.
