Faculty Achievements

Dr. Surendra Singh Rathod, Professor and Head of Electronics Engineering


Department at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology was honoured with India
International Friendship Societys most coveted institutional and globally
reputed SHIKSHA RATTAN PURASKAR along with Certificate of Excellence
for his services and achievements in the field of engineering education at a
glittering function. The award was presented by Dr. G. V. G. Krishnamurthy,
former Chief Election Commissioner, Govt. of India on 29thMay 2012 at India
International Center, New Delhi.

2. Paper published and / or presented in National and International


conferences by faculty

Prof. Madhavi Gokhale (Associate Professor, ASH Dept.) presented her research
paper titled Simplification in Contemporary Self-help Literature at the 2012
International Conference on Society, Humanity and History at Singapore
organized on July 23-24 2012. The extended version of the paper was also
selected for publication in the International Journal of Social Sciences & Humanity
(IJSHH) Volume 2, No. 5, ISSN 2010-3646, pp. 392-396.
Prof. Imdad Rizvi (Associate Professor, Electronics Engineering Dept.) presented
his research paper titled Object-Based Image Analysis of Worldview-2 Imagery
of Urban Areas at the 32nd annual International Geoscience and Remote
Sensing Symposium - IGARSS 2012- of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing
Society held from July 22-27, 2012 in Munich.

3. Workshops and /or conference conducted by faculty and resource


persons

Workshop on Content Management Systems using Joomla: S.P.I.T and


S.P.C.E in collaboration with IASLIC (Indian Association of Special Libraries and
Information Centre) conducted a two-day workshop on 15th-16th June 2012.

Workshop on VB. Net & ADO.Net: The Department of Computer Engineering
successfully conducted a 4-day Workshop on VB.Net & ADO.Net (fifth batch) for
the teaching staff and students of Mumbai University from 7th to 11th August
2012.

Workshop on Ruby on Rails: The Department of Computer Engineering in
association with RebelGuru.com, IT firm in Mumbai, successfully conducted a 3-
day workshop on Ruby on Rails for the teaching staff, students of Mumbai
University from 15th to 17th September 2012.

STTP course on SPA: A one- week ISTE approved graded STTP course on
Structured Programming Approach with Lab Exercises for the First year
Engineering revised syllabus was conducted jointly by I.T. and Computer
Engineering departments from 31 December 2012 to 5 January 2013.

International Conference on Communication, Information and Computing
Technology (ICCICT) 2012

The institute organized an international conference on Communication,
Information and Computing Technology (ICCICT 2012) on 19th and 20th October
2012.. In all 427 papers were peer reviewed by 100 reviewers from premium
institutions and 143 papers selected under the category of oral presentations.
The high rejection rate of the papers (around 66%) increased the quality
threshold of the conference.

Achievements in competitive exams

We are proud to announce the spectacular results of our students in various


competitive exams that qualify them for higher studies:

Ms Ashwini Nene (third year computer engineering) is one of the few students
globally who has scored full marks in the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
and scored 4.5 in Analytical Writing Analysis (AWA).
Mr. Raj Mehta (final year computer engineering) scored 99.4 percentile in the
GATE examination with a score of 590 out of 630.
Ms. Pooja Pai, (final year computer engineering) scored 99.6% in the CAT
examination.
S.P.I.T team wins the IIT Bombay National Debate Tournament 2012

We are proud to announce that our team won the prestigious National Debate
tournament organized by IIT Bombay. The debate tournament was held over a
period of three days from 19th to 21st December 2012, as part of Asia's biggest
college fest - Mood Indigo.

60 teams attended the debate tournament with participants from all over India,
Singapore and Pakistan. It was a British Parliamentary debate tournament,
which is the standard format for most of the international debating tournaments.
A single team from Sardar Patel Institute of Technology participated in the
tournament and after successfully completing five preliminary rounds, followed
by the quarter-finals and semi-finals.The team from our institute beat students
from Law and Business backgrounds in the finals to win the tournament. The
team consisted of two members from the Computer Engineering Department of
the college Aditya Shetty, B.E Computers and Atman Pandya, T.E
Computers. Aditya Shetty also won the Best Speaker award at the tournament.
