Irrigation

Seventh Lecture

Irrigation Interval

Irrigation Interval (I.I):- is the time interval between two consecutive irrigation.

. -:

F.C

R.A.W

P.W.P

Dry

Example (10) : Given a soil which has F.C = 38% by Vol., P.W.P = 17% b Vol., R.Z = 80cm,
A.D = 40%, ET = 6mm/day. Find I.Imax.?

Solution :

Example (11) : A loam soil which has F.C = 22% by dry weight, P.W.P = 10%, As = 1.4, ET =
5mm/day, R.Z = 1.0m, A.D = 50%. Find I.I?

Solution :

If we use I.I = 2 weeks dn = 514 = 70mm < R.A.W (84mm) O.K

Irrigation

If we use R.A.W = 48mm, I.I = (48/5) = 9 days, for this if we use I.I = 1 week

dn = 5 7 = 35mm < 48mm O.K,

if we use I.I = 2 weeks, dn = 5 14 = 70mm > 48mm. Not O.K

.(70mm ) ( 48mm )

Example (12) A 1m R.Z has F.C = 40%, P.W.P = 20%, (by Vol.), A.D = 50%, initial water
content is 38% by Vol., Crop consumptive use is as follows:-

1) 1 mm/day for the first 2 days

2) 1.5 mm/day for next 3 days

3) 2 mm/day for the next 5 days

4) 2.5 mm/day for the next 10 days

5) 3 mm/days for the next 20 days

Find the time for next irrigation.

d (of water can be deplete) 100 20 = 80mm

consumptions of water :

Irrigation

Total amount of consumptions water = 2+4.5+10 +25 = 41.5mm,(2.5mm/day)

dn = 80 41.5 = 38.5mm ( )

I.I = (38.5/3) = 13 days

Next irrigation = 2 + 3 + 5 + 10 + 13 = 33 days.

H.W(6) : Water is applied to a farm at a rate of 40L/sec, A=100Mishara, the time of

application is 48hr, water losses are 20% of applied water, consumptive use of the plant is
6mm/day. Find I.I?

H.W(7): Given a soil which has F.C =36%, P.W.P = 16%, by Vol., R.Z = 90cm, A.D = 40%,
consumptive use 15mm/day, on 6 November the soil moisture content is 31% by Vol. . Find the
date of the next irrigation?
