Daily habits that cause more carbon emission at school and at home

Energy wasting

We all unthinkingly leave lights on when we are not in the room, or switch off the TV by
the remote instead of at the wall or turn on the air conditioner when we could open the
window and turn on a fan. Its force of habit a bad habit we can break, with just a little
thought .

Transportation

Transportation to school is by individual parents. A high number of car come in and out of
school to send students to school. Teachers using

Planting

Less and no planting

What are the group members pledges to do as a challenge to cut down carbon emission at school
and at home

Start a club called low carbon society as a part Cocurricular activities ( LCS CLUB )

The objective of the club is to create awareness on reducing carbon emission

- activities include vegetable planting in and around the school area.
- the few plants we have managed to plant so far include cabbage, long beans, lady finger, corn
,tapioca ,ginger and lemon grass
- one additional plant will be snake plant. We will take up challenge of making sure all the
members of the club plant this snake plant at their own homes. This activity will increase the
number of plant planted in school, general place and homes

- as a final step, we will post all the activities done by the club at our very Facebook page

Reduce,reuse and Recycle

Recycle school or classroom paper, newspapers, beverage containers, electronic

equipment, and batteries. Reducing, reusing, and recycling at school and in the classroom
helps conserve energy and reduces pollution and greenhouse gases from resource
extraction, manufacturing, and disposal. You can reduce, reuse, and recycle at school or in
the classroom by using two-sided printing and copying, buying supplies made with recycled
content, and recycling used printer cartridges. For your old electronics, donate used
equipment to other organizations, or investigate leasing programs to ensure that used
equipment is reused and recycled.

- Never use air cond 3 ( 1hp) 3 ( 3hp ) , use fan ( morning if cold never used it ) , off
light .

- Laptop chargers

School car pooling system

We have managed to create a system with the help of the parents teachers organization (PIBG)
to have a single transportation medium for students at our school.

This basically means , a single bus/ van will be used to bring and forth the students ( almost 80% )
from school to home. This system largely cuts down the carbon emission from the multiple
number of vehicles that used to be driven by parents.

- Our goal is to bring this idea to more school in Malaysia so that less vehicles will be used to send
students to school.

How do group members encourage their family members and friends to lead a low carbon
lifestyle?

We believe that it is our duty to disseminate what we have learned through this participation to our
family members and friends in leading a low carbon lifestyle. Firstly, as the participants of the
Iskandar Malaysia Ecolife Challenge and as the representatives of our school, we will make sure
our friends at school will practice low carbon lifestyle by showing them related videos about low
carbon as well as the importance of practicing low carbon lifestyle so that they will know and have
the exposure of living in a low carbon environment. We will also share our most memorable
experiences which is participating in this Ecolife Challenge to our friends in order to encourage
them to practice the same habits as us. Secondly, we will encourage our family members to lead a
low carbon lifestyle by showing them some talks on low carbon lifestyle by any prominent speakers
so that they could get better explanations about what they should do. Besides, we will also join
hands with them in any activities related to low carbon lifestyle in order for them to get the
experience of practicing it. We strongly believe that we will be the best representatives of our
school to encourage our family members and friends to lead a low carbon lifestyle based on what
we have learned from our participation in this competition. Finally, we sincerely would like to
thank the Iskandar Malaysia Ecolife Challenge team for organizing this competition which has
given great benefits to us that will be shared to our society. Without participating in this
competition, we would have not known much about low carbon and we would have not earned the
opportunity to share what we have learned to others.
