Through this course, I have indeed gained more insights and awareness related to

curriculum. First and foremost, I have learned about what a curriculum is all about and some

issues related to curriculum. The role of curriculum is vital as it has various implications

depending on how well a particular curriculum was planned before being implemented. If a

curriculum is poorly planned and implemented, it can negatively affect a particular nation as

education is the core factor in ensuring the quality of workforce and economy of the nation.

In addition, I have also gained knowledge about the development and implementation of

curriculum in the education system. Curriculum development is a planned, purposeful,

progressive and systematic process to produce positive improvements in the educational

system (Alvior, 2014). I now realize that there are several key factors which need to be taken

into consideration when developing a curriculum, such as needs analysis, learning theories

and approaches, monitoring and support, assessment, resources and time factor. More

importantly, I have also gained deeper insights with regards to the local curriculum itself. I

have realized how the local curriculum has transformed in certain ways to ensure that the

pupils are equipped with 21st century learning skills. This is especially important to make

sure they are well-prepared as they are faced with the challenges of the 21st century.

Besides that, through the coursework that I have completed, namely the written

essay and forum, I have also gained additional knowledge with regards to stakeholders and

types of roles which they each have. Stakeholders are seen as any group or individual who

is affected by or can affect the achievement of an organizations objectives (Freeman, 1984).

For example, I now know about the several types of roles of stakeholders, such as decision

makers, contributor, collaborator, assessor, implementers and counsel. Each stakeholder

plays a particular role and has its own importance in ensuring the effectiveness of the

curriculum. All the stakeholders work hand-in-hand to contribute towards the successful

implementation of a particular curriculum. A successful curriculum will ensure that the

nations aspirations and goals can be achieved and materialized.

Last but not least, a suggestion to help improve the effectiveness of this course is by

planning and conducting a field trip to the curriculum development centre in Malaysia. Thus,

it will expose the teacher trainees to how the national curriculum is being developed and the

rationale behind it. In short, I have benefited much from this course before I finish my final

semester and being posted to schools in the near future. With the knowledge and insights

that I have gained, I will try my level best to apply them in the school to ensure that the

curriculum works as intended. This will guarantee that the young generation receives a

quality education towards the effort of producing a commendable workforce for our country

in the future.
