Wilson Fall 2017 Volleyball Club Plan

Wednesdays after school ~ 45 minutes ~ 6 practises

Practise 1: Bumping & Passing

ASK: Whats the proper form to bump a volleyball? Show me if you know. You use the bump
to pass the ball to another teammate or to set the ball.

Ready Position - When you make contact, use your legs instead of arms in upward
motion to avoid redness and soreness.

Hands - Cross your four fingers over each other. Position thumbs side-by-side and
extend your arms in front of you. Create a platform with your forearms.

Dont interlock your fingers.

Hit between your wrists and elbow, not your fists.

Activity #1- Partner Bump (10 min)

In partners, one will lightly toss the ball and the other will try to bump it right to them. If they
get three successful passes in a row where the thrower does not have to move, they take three
steps back and try again. (5 minutes then switch)

Activity #2: Shuttles (Passing Relay)

In groups of 5-7, 2 on one side 5 on the other
Small side tosses to large side and runs to large side, large side bumps to small side and
moves to small side.
Continuous rotation without stopping
1st time through make sure you allow ball to bounce so you have control
2nd time remove bounce. If control is lost, catch and restart where you were

Activity #3: Circle Passing

in groups of 6 7 students
1 ball per group
ball starts by tossing to player across circle from you
catch ball then toss to next player
these toss and catches prepare you for where you are to pass to when the activity starts
once the ball has gone around the circle once (preferably in a star formation) students
begin passing without catching
students try to successfully keep the star pattern going

Setting
Typically, a set is prepping the ball so someone can spike it or to attack he opposing team.

Start in the ready position facing the target.

Spread fingers in the shape of the ball above the head.
Form a triangle with thumbs and pointer fingers (hands should not be touching) (like we
talked about in football)
Place hands directly in front of the face close to the forehead. This position is called
NEUTRAL and is always the starting position for the set.
On contact, set by extending the arms and legs.

Activity #2- Partner Set (10 min)

In partners, one will lightly toss the ball and the other will try to set it right to them. If they get
three successful passes in a row where the thrower does not have to move, they take three steps
back and try again. (5 minutes then switch)

Activity #3- SETTING GAME: POPCORN (10 min)

Two teams play on same court

Teams take turns setting the ball in the area
Goal is to not let it touch the ground
If it touches the ground, the team that didnt touch the ball last gets a point

Activity #4- Game play with modified rules (remainder of practise)

Ball can touch the ground and people can touch the ball more than once

2. Serving
3.Defense
4. ???

6. Bracket Tournament (using teams mixed from Ws & Ls in Round Robin Tournament)

divided as:
