Axes
Axes are often produced with center holes on both ends. These are necessary for clamping the axes in the lathe or
grinding machine. There are several standards that describe these dimensions center holes. DIN 332 are normalized
center holes with and without screw-thread.

Diameter o sets in axes are often rounded to avoid notching (risk for fracture). The standard DIN 509 o ers
di erent standardized possibilities for further application.

Mounting a counter piece (for example a gear) on an axis is possible with a conical part of the shaft that ts precisely
in the hub of the counter piece. The conical shapes of the shaft and the hub are thus indicated by the cone slope, for
example 1/10. In the table there are a few examples of long and short shaft ends combined with a screw-thread for
the axial positioning of the counter piece.
