The many myths of “I CARE” range from sensational…

“I Care… about saving our planet’s greatest natural resource, human beings.”

To Misleading…
“Abortion and population control have taken a devastating toll on the African American and
Hispanic communities.”

To Lies of “Junk Science”…

“Induced abortion of a normal pregnancy results in increased risk of breast cancer for the
mother.”

Facts about abortion

That are actually useful to our community

 About half of American women have experienced an unintended pregnancy, and at current rates more than
one-third (35%) will have had an abortion by age 45.1
 60% of women having abortions already have children.2
 Nine in 10 abortions occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.3
 “In truth…abortion rates among racial and ethnic minorities—especially blacks and Hispanics—are directly
linked to their higher rates of unintended pregnancy, which in turn reflect pervasive health disparities more
generally.”4
 The National Cancer Institute (2003), American Cancer Society (2008), and the Journal of the American
Medical Association (2003) have all published conclusions stating that “having an abortion or miscarriage
does not increase a woman’s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer,” (National Cancer Institute,
2003).5
 An August 2008 report by the APA Task Force on Mental Health and Abortion, the most current and
authoritative review of its kind, concludes that “the best scientific evidence indicates that the relative risk of
mental health problems among adult women who have an unplanned pregnancy is no greater if they have an
elective first-trimester abortion than if they did deliver the pregnancy.”6
 The “post-abortion traumatic stress syndrome” that abortion foes claim is widespread is not recognized by
either the APA or the American Psychiatric Association.7
 In a recent study by the World Health Organization, “of the approximately 600,000 pregnancy-related
deaths occurring annually around the world, 80,000 [or 13%] are associated with unsafe abortions.” 8
