The GATE 2014 Committee with the NCB has the authority to decide the qualifying marks for
each GATE paper. In case any claim or dispute arises in respect of GATE 2014, it is hereby made
absolutely clear that the Courts and Tribunals in Mumbai and Mumbai alone shall have the
exclusive jurisdiction to entertain and settle any such dispute or claim.
GATE Result
GATE result is announced in the month of March and is published on its website.
GATE 2014 score is valid for TWO YEARS from the date of announcement of the result. GATE
2014 result may be made available on payment basis to interested organizations (educational
institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) between IIT Bombay and the requesting organization.
After GATE what?

Subsequent to the GATE exam, even before the result is declared, the student faces another
difficulty regarding the admission process of various colleges.
Different department of a college has different selection procedure which often creates
confusion and indecisiveness in the minds of the aspirant. For example, the ME program at
the IISc has direct admission whereas the M.Tech. Program has a written test followed by an
interview and the MS program has only an interview.
One has to apply separately to each department since there is no common counselling procedure.
Hence each candidate has to judiciously select departments where he/she has the best chances
of getting admission, given his GATE rank.
A rank below 100 would generally pose no problems as it would guarantee a seat in either
the IISc or IIT. But if you have secured a rank above 100, the options get confusing with
regard to the institute and its specialization or in cases of inter disciplinary admissions. This is
where a student will do well on taking expert guidance. We wish you luck in your pursuit of

Indian Institute of Science is a public institution for scientific and technological research and

Communication and Networking: - Network test bed labs with Cisco routers, wireless LAN
devices, link and traffic emulaters, miniature wireless sensors, and several reconfigurable

simulation software: ns2, OPNET, Qualnet.
Signal Processing: - Speech and audio lab with facility for realtime multichannel audio processing

This institute offers following programmes:

Eligibility
The minimum requirement is a degree with second class and valid GATE score for General and
OBC candidates. Pass class with valid GATE score for SC/ST candidates.
Admission Procedure: -
The process is different for all the four programs (ME/MTECH/MS/MSc) offered by IISC.
The Application form can be downloaded from official website of Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore on the next day of declaration of the GATE result.
IISc entrance test (independent of GATE) month of April.
Last date to apply- Generally one week after the notification.
ME: -
The admission is purely based on Gate Performance (AIR/Score). There is no test and interview.
Rank below 50(AIR 50) can almost guarantee a seat in ME Course.
MTECH: -
Admission to this program is based on the performance in test and interview conducted by
respective department. Centre of Electronic Design and Technology (CEDT) and Computational
Science department offer M.Tech Course. A rank of 400 - 500 in EC/CS/EE can be said safe range
for getting the call for CEDT Course whereas rank in the range of 80 - 90 is considered to be safe
for getting call from Computational Science department. The admission is purely based on Gate
Performance (AIR/Score). There is no test and interview. A rank below 50 can almost guarantee
a seat in ME Course.
MS/MSc: These are research-orientated programs and admission to these programs is also
based on test/interview. Rank as high as 700-800 could end up in giving an interview call for
these programs. IISC also conducts its own entrance test and good performance (Score/rank) in
this test will also be helpful in getting the interview calls if Gate Score is not sufficient enough for
applying.

Some of the departments and interdisciplinary groups offer direct admission to the limited
number of candidates solely based on higher GATE percentile. Candidates, who are offered direct
admission, have to confirm the admission by paying the fees and submitting the acceptance
letter. However, such candidate will have option for not to accept the direct admission offer in
given specializations but to appear for written test/interview in discipline of one's higher
choice(s). Seats remaining vacant after Direct Admission (can be in small like direct admission);
will be filled up through written test/interview. Each candidate can submit only One Application
Form.

The admission procedure to consider the students for the various programmes is as follows:
Admission Procedure: - The institute has two modes for admission.
(i) Test/interview: - Candidates must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average
(CGPA) of 6.75 on a 10-point scale or equivalent 60% marks in aggregate (of all the
years / semesters of the qualifying examination) wherever marks are awarded
and who have qualified GATE (for full time) with a valid score in the case of
M.Tech. and M.S. (Research) Programs and CEED with a valid score in the case of
M.Des. in Industrial Design Programme.
(ii) Direct Admission (Without Test/Interview): - Candidates seeking direct admission should
have minimum 75 % marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) (or 8.5 CGPA).
Submission of online application commences after GATE result.

Last date for submission of online application: in the month of April.

Admission Procedure: - Selection is based on performance in GATE and Personal Interview of

short-listed candidates. Marks obtained in GATE and in personal interview will have 70% and
30% weightage respectively. Personal interview will be held to test the following: (a)
Motivation and aptitude for the programme (b) Oral communication skills (c) Skills in basic
science, engineering, and relevant areas. The institute does not conduct any test/interview
except for candidates appearing in GATE from XE/XL papers. The cut-off score for getting
Counselling letter varies from branch to branch. Applicants can choose a suitable course out of
47 courses offered by the institute by their academic background (degree or equivalent in
BE/BTech/BArch/etc.).
At the time of counselling, applicants will be offered seats depending upon their GATE score,
eligibility and options given in the application form. Those applicants who do not report for
counselling will not be eligible for admission in the session. The selected applicants will have to
hand over the original GATE Scorecard along with demand draft towards fees.
One advantage with IIT Kharagpur is that there is no need to fill up different form for different
department as one can give eight preferences (maximum) in a single application form, which is
not the case with other IITs.

PSUs recruiting through GATE 2014 Notifications Eligibility Forms

More than 1500 jobs are available for freshers in engineering disciplines for major PSU (Public
Sector Undertaking) in the country the coveted PSUs are IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, Power Grid etc.
All these public sector companies are going to recruit ET (Engineer Trainee) based on GATE
scores. First they would shortlist the candidates based on GATE score and then Candidates
would be called for further selection process which consists of Group Discussion &
Technical/Personal Interview.
The number of applicants in GATE 2014 has touched a mind boggling figure of 12lakhs.
Compared to GATE 2011 5,52,530 and GATE 2010 4,14,093. The number of applicants has
doubled compared to last year with only Final Year students and Technical Graduates being
eligible to appear in GATE 2014. This drastic jump in the number of applicants can be credited
for using GATE scores for selections into PSUs.
The following PSUs will be recruiting candidates based on their performance in GATE 2014.
