Methodology Statement for Backfill of Power Intake

1. /Profile

Backfilling rock muck mainly refers to EL.1011.5~EL.1032 inside and
outside the tower and the quantity of the backfill in power intake is about
96434m. The backfilling rock muck of power intake is divided into three
stages.The 1st stage backfill will be done from EL.1011.5 to EL.1020.0,the 1nd
stage backfill will be done from EL.1020.0 to EL.1032.0,and the 3rd stage
backfill will be done in the left and right retaining wall of power intake.

3.1 / Construction Access

A temporary access will be formed from EL.1011.5~EL.1020.0 of power
intake 6# by backfilling the rock muck,and the material of backfilling will be
transported to the working face through R9 road and the temporary access
during the 1st stage backfilling. The material of backfill will be transported to
the working face through R10 road and the platform of EL.1020 at power
intake during the 2nd stage backfilling. The 3rd stage backfilling of left bank will
use R10 road and the right bank will use the R9 road.

3.2 / Layout of Spoil Tips

The quantity of the backfill in power intake is about 96434m.The material
of backfill will be transported from aggregate field.

During the 1st stage backfilling,the material of backfilling will be
transported by truck from aggregate field to power intake,and then the material
and equipment will be transported to the working face by truck or tower crane
and cage.The temporary backfilling will be done at the the right of the power
intake 6# from EL.1011.5~EL.2010.0,to form the temporary road which is
connecting R9 road.The temporary backfilling rock muck will be removed and
backfill plain concrete C20.
The backfilling of 2nd stage is from EL.1020.0~EL.1032.0 and will be
completed from left to right of power intake.
The slope of 1:1.4 will be reserved on the left side of power intake 1#
concrete retaining wall,and the 3rd stage backfilling will be completed after the
retaining wall is completed.

4. /Backfilling Rock Muck

Prior to backfilling, forms shall be removed and the areas cleaned of trash
and debris. Backfilling adjacent to concrete structures 1 m and over in height,
shall not commence before 7 days from the time the concrete was cast. The
material to be placed within 1 m of the structure shall contain no material
greater than 100 mm and other position should not be more than 40cm. In
order to ensure the particle size of backfill material,a sieve need be maked for
the backfilling in power intake.
The backfilling rock muck should be layered compacted,and the layer
thickness of paving is 40 cm. The compaction density of rock muck should be
no less than 1900Kg/m3,the content of fine particle below 5mm should be less
than 22% and the porosity should be less than 25%.
The testing data and compaction effect must be accepted by the Owners
Engineer before the next stage of construction
4.2 / The Construction of Backfilling

4.2.1 / The Selection of Rock Muck

The material of backfill will be choosed at aggregate field,and the material
of backfill should be screened by the sieve to ensure the particle size of backfill
material less than 40cm.

4.2.2 / Paving leveling

The backfilling rock muck of power intake should be layered and the
thickness of each layer of ballast loose laying 40 cm.The pave leveling shall be
done by a bulldozer, and some uneven parts should be made up with fine
stones.

4.2.3 / Rolling Compaction

It should be compacted at low-speed by the bulldozer before the


compaction by roller. In order to avoid the compaction construction damage to
the concrete of power intake, the four tiomes of vibrate rolling compaction
should be used in areas far from concrete buildings,six times of static
compaction should be used in the neighborhood of concrete structures.
Ten times of frog hammer should be used in special position like corner or
the local backfill of the widthless than 2m.
4.2.4 / Compaction Test

After the completion of the backfilling of each layer ,water replacement
method will be used for the backfill in power intake.According to the
Employers Statement of Requirements 2.16.3 Testing of Backfill Testing of
backfill shall be done every 300m or 600 or 1 test per shift, the test
frequency will be decided on site.
