Analysis of School Literacy Movement in 15 Minutes Before

Start of Teaching Learning Process.

A. Introduction
Reading is one of importance things in our life. Teaching learning process is based on
reading ability. The indicator success of students in school as well as in life in society will
open up the chances of a better life by using reading habits that have entrenched the school.
The lack of reading literacy of our nation causes our person are not competitive due to the
lack of mastery of knowledge and technology, as a result of weak interest and the ability to
read and write. Reading and writing has not become a necessity of life and has not become a
nation's culture. The number of libraries and books is far from sufficient to meet the demands
of reading as a basis education issues of reading culture have not been considered a critical
problem, while many other issues are considered more urgent.
School literacy movement (GLS) is an effort of the Ministry of Education and Culture in
achieving one of the nine priority agenda (Nawacita) is to revolutionize the character of the
nation. The Ministry of Education and Culture through Ministerial Regulation No. 23 of 2013
launched a school literacy movement to cultivate a distinguish character toward children
through language. Simply put, every Students in school is required to read some books outside
of the learning material before the classroom begins.
School is the place which student to learn about esteemed character and other good
character. Student can get esteemed character through literacy movement whereas this action
not only reads something but learn about all things outside subjects also. Teachers have an
important role in learning activities, so teachers must have a comprehensive way and make
students active and think critically. Literacy action will succeed if run holistically. Not only
the teachers at the school, parents, libraries, government and the private sector must also be
together support the realization of literacy movement. Simply, the school provides adequate
reading room facilities, Citizens should care and build mini libraries are managed by non-
governmental organizations to support the reading interests of them. in the family, parents are
advised to buy some books more frequently to increase their interest in reading for their
children.

B. The aim of School Literacy Movement.


The aim of this activity are students and school should create an effective energy to make
or buildup reading habits in over there. toward to realize the reading habits and literacy
movement be obtained by school action program of literacy movement. As a follow:

1. Persuade all elements of life such as family, school, teacher, and society to build up
and to be participate for these habits.
2. To establish a socialization about the literacy movement in schools.
3. Providing Books for students, this activity is design to get a reading book habits for
school at least the number books are threefold of number students in school, every class
is should have a reading corner through cooperation with the school committee and
parents;
4. Reading Habits, this activity is intended to all component of school not only student
but teacher and school management should read one or some part of book for 15
minutes before the learning begins also.
5. One student one book. This activity is designed to improve the number and type of
textbooks on school, so that every student should has 1 book to read on school, class
or at home. Parents are expected to buy at least 1 book for one semester or 1 book one
year, which then donated to school library.

- Government (Education Service of Banyumas / BP2MK Region V)
- Society (LSM / Family / another person surrounding us)

C. Stages of Literacy movement in School


Literacy movement in school is an activity which is supported by all element of education.,
not only students but schools and related elements of education must also support the
creation of literacy movement. This habits actually starting 15 minutes before teaching
learning process. Students and all element education like principal, teacher and other workers
in school should read some books in 15 minutes after read it, they should write the resume
of some part what they read.
