1. Preparation

Make sure, that all devices stand correctly and safety.

Always use proper measurement cords, youre test location

should be clean and tidily.

For security reasons always start with the PE measurement ,

the inspection process should be followed.

Basically you have to follow the advices of the valid standard

for your test object.
(e.g. : DIN EN 62353, DIN VDE 0701-0702).

2. Inspection

Check the presence of all documents and equipment parts of the

testing object.

Security- and warning notices must be readable and complete.

Search for cracks and dents in the device housing, every weak spot
is a security fault.

Safety problems must be fixed before you can start the measurement
of the electrical safety.

3. Electrical Safety
Connection:
Plug in the safety tester into the power socket and switch it on.

Plug in the mains plug of the ultrasonic device into the test socket of the
safety tester.

All power switches of the test object have to be switched on before you
start the measurement of the electrical safety.

The measure cord must be plugged into the TP-1 jack and connected
to a accessible conductive part.

3.1 Connection
The applied part (ultrasonic head) has to be connected to the GM-610 for
the next measurements. We took a kidney dish filled with water to get a
proper current circuit.

Just the front has to be

under water.

The kidney dish is

connected with a
clamp to the GM-610.

3.2 GM-610 Setup

For the following tests we use the

Multimeter Modus of the GM-610.

The IEC 62353 is the right

standard for this recurrent
test.

3.3 Measurement SPL20

Select the protective earth test step

according to the IEC 62353.

www.spl-elektronik.com 11

3.4 Measurement SPL20

The measurement starts immediately . You have to test all the

accessible conductive parts of a correct PE resistance by connecting
them with the GM-610.

0.3 Ohm is the allowed value for the

PE resistance, the measured value is
within the correct limit.

3.5 Measurement
SPL220/220P
For the equipment leakage current we take the direct version. The
testing object has to be switched on.

The required phase inversion

is performed automatically by
choosing the test step with the
P at the end.

3.6 Measurement
SPL220/220P

For a class 1 device, the limit value is 500A.

www.spl-elektronik.com 14
3.7 Measurement
SPL250/250P
The measurement of the patient leakage current is performed with
the fault condition : mains voltage on the applied parts in a direct
version.

The phase inversion has to be

done again.

3.8 Measurement
SPL250/250P

As you can see the values for both test steps is the same.
The limit value is 5000A for this measurement.

4.1 Fault condition

To simulate a fault condition we damaged the isolation of the

ultrasonic head.

The damage in the lower left corner

should influence our measurement
in a noticeable way. This failure
could appear after a long usage in a
patient enviroment.

4.2 Fault condition

Now we have a value far away

from the limit .

This failure should be prospected and fixed befor this device can be used
again.

The electrical safety measurent must be done again when parts of the
equipment has been repaired or replaced.
