Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?

The lesson plan project provided numerous opportunities for growth in technology facilitation and
leadership through incorporating three various technology tools (OneNote, Delve, and Twitter)
into the classroom. For technology facilitation and integration to be successful, teachers must be
open to trying something new and understanding that issues will arise until everyone, teachers and
students included, learn how to successfully use the said technology. It is important, however, not
to implement several tools close together. By spreading apart implementation, students and
teachers have time to become successful users and not get overwhelmed due to technology
overload. Leadership opportunities were provided as I introduced and lead a classroom teacher
based on tools that would met her classroom standards and incorporate higher order thinking
skills.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)

Currently, I am not a classroom teacher (media specialist) and therefore this lesson plan project
has proven the importance and effect a positive and enthusiastic disposition can have on
encouraging teachers to try something new. Through my disposition, I had to prove my
knowledge of technology skills by providing tools that could easily coincide with the curriculum
standards and text that the classroom teacher was using. By knowing the classroom standards and
depth of knowledge that the teacher wanted to implement for her gifted students, I could combine
the two (content standards and technology standards) and provide differentiated measures for
writing and responding to text (through blogging and OneNote). Therefore, through using my
knowledge and skills in a positive and enthusiastic manner, I was able to meet with the classroom
teacher, determine her depth of knowledge and rigor required for honors students, and produce a
digital unit that would implement authentic learning in a positive and safe digital manner to push
the envelope and use of technology integration in the classroom.

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?

While implementing a lesson using OneNote and Delve for student blogs, our school principal
came in and observed the lesson along with our technology department. Both were blown away
from the digital notebook that was created for students and what the students have been able to
produce due to working in an online environment through Delve. From this experience and lesson
plan project, the classroom teacher and myself have submitted to present at GA ETC as an
engagement and learning flight has taken place with the implementation of the digital unit.
Student learning and engagement is amazing to watch when 100% of students are being active
participants and all have an online voice. At the completion of the unit, the principal would like
for myself and the classroom teacher to present to the remaining ELA department to encourage
greater technology use. The digital notebook created will also be used as an example for teachers
in our district to have a vision of where they can take Office 365 and the digital engagement that
can happen for all students. Therefore, this lesson impacted student learning and can have a
greater impact on school improvement and faculty development through additional professional
development with remaining faculty and staff.
