Introduction
The distance education may enable students to be part of a school setting through technology, that is, the
virtual classroom which helps them to have social interaction. Then as we cannot be physically present,
we have to take advantage of this tool to start communicating and participating.

This activity Breaking the Ice plays a significant role as the first event at this level in which to create a
comfortable environment is important. It will help you to make introductions and share thoughts and see
that you have things and interests in common because all of you share a similar goal.

Breaking the Ice wants to encourage you to welcome and warm up the conversation among all the
students to learn something about each other by writing a personal profile, that is, to make a brief
biography of you to share with the participants in this virtual classroom.

On the other hand, the Online Tests are an important part of the learning process because they can help to
determine your achievement and the knowledge you have acquired. They also facilitate students self-
evaluation; this means that you can evaluate how you are learning and what is happening with your
learning in order to make some changes to improve.

The Online Tests are administered as quick progress tests to measure important information you work
through the course and which allows you to have a progressive learning pattern. In addition, this will
provide you with preparation for both the online guides and the exams held on site; this is the reason why,
online tests are going to be given at the end of every three units of study.

Student assistance
In order to boost the appropriate development of the forum, you must read the rubrics very carefully to
avoid any misunderstanding. Remember that you can search and revise models for writing profiles on the
internet or different English textbooks which can help you with this task. However, remember that this is
not a copy and paste strategy. This is about using and putting into practise your learning skills for your
own benefit.

The online tests are basically based on language use; this means that the tests will be about grammatical
structures and vocabulary. You must revise the vocabulary panels, at the start of each unit, especially the
words that go together and form one phrase (for example, on a beach, do homework, go swimming) which
highlight the high-frequency of words and expressions that you will need in the wider world. If you are
aware of them, you will succeed in learning them
The grammatical structures are presented and practiced in context so to study them, you are encouraged to
work out the rules of form and use for yourself, in this way, you can see and understand how grammar
works in a natural and integral part of the language learning. Then to consolidate your grammar
knowledge, you may check the grammar reference in the back of the Students book and after that you
can do the practice exercises in your book. This facilitates your language acquisition. In addition and for
further practice of the vocabulary and grammar, it is recommendable to use the workbook to reinforce
what you have learned.
After you have worked on this process, and think that you need to clarify more about grammar, you may
watch the video tutorials, on your self-study material, which contain different presentation links related to
this issue.
