` Assignment 2 client proposal

Brief/client needs

Ice fire gaming have approached me to produce their website. The website must be interesting and
exciting for the user, must appeal to their target market group and the website should adhere to all
the clients requests. As well as designing and producing the website, I will design and produce any
graphics and logos for the website, this will include the company logo and any animations or images
used on the site.

Logo

The logo for the website will have to be relevant to the companys title whilst also being
aesthetically pleasing, and visually interesting to the viewer. The concepts of ice and fire should
carry over in to the colour scheme and the overall design of the logo, however there should be some
evidence in the logo that this is a gaming company, this can be done in a subtle or obvious way
depending on what works best in harmony with the rest of the logo. Below are some examples that
the logo for ice fire gaming could draw inspiration from, or combine elements of.

Screen Icons

Screen icons will be placed on the navigation bar which effectively produces an image of the action
upon clicking, e.g. clicking the shopping cart with an image of a shopping cart will take you to the
shopping cart page of the products you have chosen. My screen icons will be kept to the entire
theme of the website that produces a bubbly vibe to match the energetic music as well as the theme
of the website.
Navigation Bar/Menus

The navigation bars and menus should be simple for the user to use. The user will most likely be
familiar with the navigation bar being horizontal and along the top of the page. It would be wise for
Ice Fire gaming to follow this formula so the user will be familiar with the navigation aspects of the
site. This idea should continue into the placement of the search bar, search results etc. The
navigation bar should contain rollover buttons, this is a very effective way of categorising
information in a way that is very accessible for the user.

Animated GIF

Any animated GIF used on the website should be used to add life and energy to the website,
however, if animated gifs are used incorrectly they could give the website a cheap and
unprofessional feel. Gifs should also be positioned in a way so they are visible, and do add a fun
entertaining, amusing aspect to the website, but they should also be positioned and sized in a way
so that they do not overpower the webpage or distract or possibly irritate the user.

Rollovers

Rollovers can be used all over the website to display extra information and give a professional feel to
the site. As previously mentioned, the main navigation bar should contain a rollover function. This
will make navigation through the site very simple for the user and will make the website flow and
create a very smooth user experience.

Style

The style of the website should aim to be interesting and engaging for the user. The main colour
scheme should follow different shades of red and blue to fit with the company title. The shades of
red and blue should be bright and bold to make the site lively and energetic. The theme of ice and
fire should translate into all aspects of the website design and colour scheme. Having pages or
backgrounds be split in half would be a striking design choice, and the contrast of the red and blue
would exaggerate this aspect. The theme of the two colours competing with each other is also
relevant to the idea of gaming, this design choice carries themes of competition and opposition,
both of which are highly relevant to the idea of gaming. Below are some examples of a possible
background and colour scheme for the website
Target audience

The target audience for this product will mainly be males from the ages of 16 to 35, however the
website could potentially be used by a whole host of people having the red and blue colour scheme
means that the website will appeal to a large amount of people from all different demographics.

Accessibility

My website will have to have a simple layout so it is accessible for people who do not have
experience with this type of website. My website will include a large web banner where images will
change every five to ten seconds. Clicking on these images will take the user to their desired page.
Using a web banner in this way means that different sets of information can be presented in a large,
easy to see way for the user. The images will also be titled, or the name of the product will be on the
graphic itself. Presenting information to the user in this way means that any users who have slight
vision impairments or just people who do not know where to look on websites, will be able to clearly
see large and engaging sources of information and they will be able to easily and successfully
navigate through the website. This applies to the location of the navigation and search bar, they will
be located in very obvious and clear positions (along the top of the page). These elements of the
website will mean that navigation through the site will be accessible for all users and therefore will
increase the amount of users and consequently customers and sales.

Legal considerations

The 1988 copyright, designs and patents act is a law that allows the creators of any literary, dramatic, musical
and artistic works to hold the right to control the way in which their property is used. The copyright act allows
the users to monitor and control any broadcast or public performance of the copyright, and any copying,
adapting, issuing, renting or lending of any copies to the public. The 1988 copyright act will also give the
creator credit for the work and the right to be titled as the author.

A copyright will be made when a person or group of people produce a piece of work. Copyright applies to this
piece of work if it is unique, original and shows an element of effort and skill. Copyright will apply to creations
such as logos, however copyright wont apply to words or short phrases as these are not considered to be
unique or original enough and are not thought to require skill or effort in their creation. Copyright does not
apply to the ideas behind a product or its themes. The themes or ideas behind a film would not be protected,
however the written content and specific filming and writing a film would be. This means a person can explore
the same ideas and themes in their own film, however they cannot directly take or copy specific parts from
another film.

In copyright, usually the author or authors of a work will own exclusive rights to the work, however this is not
the case if the work has been produced for an employer. In this instance, the employer will own the copyright
of the product. Commissioned work, or work from a self-employed person, the rights will normally belong to
the author of the work unless the self-employed person has entered a contract that gives the rights of the
product to someone else. Any copyright infringement can only be legally pursued by the holder of the
copyright or an exclusive licensee of the product.
The works listed below are covered by the copyright designs and patents act.

Ethical considerations

A companys confidential information is information that the company does not have to release to the public.
The confidentiality of information act controls the distribution and release of this information. The confidential
information within a company should be kept safe and isolated. A person within the company of an
appropriate position will decide when this information should be disclosed to anyone, these people could be a
companys clients, employees, contractual partners etc.

As a company, ice fire gaming must follow a set of privacy laws for the safety and protection of its employees.
The data protection act ensures that information is used in a fair and legal way, that it is used for only specific
reasons and that the data is only accessed when it is absolutely needed. The act also ensures that the
information is only retained within the company for as long as it is necessary, that the information Is handled
in a manner that follows peoples data protection rights, it ensures that information is kept safe and secure,
and that this information is not transferred outside of the European Economic area unless the information is
protected to an acceptable degree.

In the UK, there are a set of decency laws that ice fire gaming will have to adhere to. In short, ice fire gaming
should avoid having any connection with the breaking of these laws so not to damage the company name.

Libel is a false published statement that is intended to damage a person or companys reputation. Ice fire
gaming should be aware of this act and this law. If libel has been inflicted onto Ice fire gaming name or an
employee. The person or entity responsible can have legal action taken against them. If the claim is successful
the company can be rewarded a sum in damages and an injunction can be put in place to prevent any future
publication of the false allegations.

Representation of, Race gender religion and sexuality

Ice fire gaming should be aware of how the company is seen to interact with people of different Races,
religions, sexuality and their gender. For example, in advertising the company should aim to be as inclusive as
possible there should be nothing in the advertisements, or the product itself that suggests suitability for only
one specific group. For ice fire gaming to reach as many people as possible, the company should do its utmost
to make sure that every demographic is being catered to equally. This will boost the reputation and increase
the number of potential customers, consequently increasing the overall revenue for the company.

Codes of practiced regulations

OFCOM

Ofcom is a company responsible for regulating the TV, radio, on demand video sectors, fixed line
telecoms, mobiles and postal services. The regulations of OFCOM that gap travel will have to follow
are compulsory and failure to follow these regulations could damage ice fire gamings reputation.
OFFCOMs regulations cover a wide array of topics many of them morally based. OFFCOM will
induce penalties to any company that doesnt follow these guidelines such as a fine. To be a
successful company ice fire gaming should be aware of these regulations and do their best to adhere
to them.

Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

The ASA is a company that monitors advertisements and respond to customer complaints about
adverts that are misleading, harmful, offensive or inappropriate. The ASA will intervene to try and
ban adds that fit the preceding list of criteria.

British Interactive Media Association (BIMA)

BIMA is a company that connects digital businesses. BIMA can help a small unknown company such
as gap travel to grow and flourish, if gap travel were to become a member of they would become a
member of a community of businesses meaning a possibility for an increase in business partners,
business connections and potential employees. BIMA also offer an awards program as a way of
giving a business extra accolades to help them grow.
File format

any graphics used for my website will have the PNG file format as they will have all been created in
photoshop. For any images that are decided to be animated they will be saved in the GIF file format.
The logo and any other graphics will have a transparent background to avoid any visually
unappealing background on any image. This will be achieved through photoshop and will be done to
create a more professional and better-looking website.

File size

In production of my website I will try and keep the file size as small as possible. This can be achieved
in many different ways, however, lowering the file size usually means lowering the quality of certain
assets such as image or video quality. I will have to try and reach a point where the quality of these
assets are as high as they can be, while also keeping the load time of the product at an acceptable
level.

Optimisation

The screen dimensions for the site will be 1000x2000 pixels. The bit depth for the webpage will be 8-
bit this means that the webpage will be able to display 256 colours. The graphics used on the
website will have to be optimised so that they can be displayed on the webpage in an appropriate
way, in that they are all of an appropriate size, shape and bit depth. If the images were to have
varying sizes shapes and bit depth it would create a very disorganised and messy product, it would
make navigation through the site considerably more complicated and less enjoyable. The graphics
on the site will of course be different to one another, however the resolution for the images should
remain the same, this will keep the file sizes of the images the same or similar, this means the
download times for the graphics will not be unnecessarily large and therefore will not take too long
for the user to download.

Market research

To conduct my market research I compared to sites, GAME UK and Steam. I compared features such
as the web banners and graphics and used this information to decide on the best features, or the
best way of presenting these features on ice fire gamins site
