ABSTRACT

This research is supposing to support students vocabulary building using the matching
game for learning specific term in local folklore to the seventh-grade students in academic year
2015/2016. This research was implied using pre-experimental design to solve the problem
happens in the classroom in which students have lack of vocabulary related to the local folklores
term. The sample is 34 students from VII B of SMPN 3 Jawai. Measurement technique will be
used to collect the data, while the tool to collecting the data is an objective test in which it
consists of 30 matching test items. The result of this research showed that matching game could
improve student vocabulary mastery. Beside, in this research has null and alternative hypothesis
as they are already proved in which the null hypothesis is rejected while the alternative
hypothesis is accepted. It strongly proves that matching game encouraged the vocabulary
mastery of seventh-grade students in academic year 2015/2016. The conclusion is to support
students learning of specific term in local folklore, matching game is strongly recommended as
a media for the learning.
