Asia Bound!
Dear Friends, Family, and Partners in the Gospel:
We are excited to report our upcoming trip to Asia-Pacific. Come December, when we grab our
suitcases, suntan lotion (?), and fly away from these American shores, it will have been 3 years
since we last visited the areas where we worked for 30 years. Darryl will be working with a
computer software program to do finishing touches on previously translated portions of the
Taliabo. He will also engage with the local church leaders on some leadership development
ideas while there on the island. Meanwhile, over 1,000 miles to his west (or 1726 kilometers to
be metrically correct), Kyla will be helping to lead a literacy workshop that will facilitate
creating reading materials for three people groups, and at the same time continue the training
of new literacy consultants.
Some may ask: Why are you going back now . . . at this time in your lives? Well, the vision
statement of our organization is not only to share the Gospel, but to also see a thriving church
develop in every place we engage. This trip is our familys fundamental support of that notion
to expend our lives in evangelizing and equipping others as we salt the earth with the Gospel
message. Lets keep at it until that day when all of us witness that worshipful scene in heaven
where persons from every tribe and language and people and nation lift their song of praise to
Christ and sing: You, Lordare worthy! (Rev. 5:9)
On the news front. . . our mission headquarters moved into a new building and then, just after
hitting the 75-year milestone of service, New Tribes Mission changed their name to
Ethnos360. With the name change, we are positioning ourselves to reach a changing world, yet
the new name still anchors us to our foundations and core
values. Ethnos is translated in the English bible as nations,
and at its root meaning in the Greek is a people group having
the same nature or genus. Yes, it can even be translated
tribe! The 360 (degrees) reminds us of how critically
important it is to encircle this world with the saving message of
the Gospel to people of all ethnicities. (Acts 1:8)
While on this ministry trip of 2 months, it looks like we will have a chance to visit 2 of our
children and their families! We are hoping we may even get to fly into Saman village where
Sam and Kari and the grandmunchkins just moved in among the Asmat people group! That
would be awesome! We also praise God that our itinerary allows us to stopover briefly to see
Chris and Staci (and yes, grandkids again) at Worldview Centre in Tasmania, Australia where
they are involved in training students for cross-cultural ministry. . .our first-ever visit to Ozzie
Land!
So how can you pray for us in these coming weeks and months? Here are some suggestions
and items for praise, too:
1) Praise... About 60% 70% of our December travel funds are in hand already, thanks
greatly to a wonderful gift from some friends in Singapore, gifts from supporters, and
funds that we ourselves have set aside. Please pray for the remaining $3,000 $2,150
needed for visas, accommodations, and remaining flight costs (including missionary
aviation flight into the tribe)
2) Pray for Darryls present ministry as he speaks in churches, schools and universities to
mobilize Christians for Gospel work to the unreached and unengaged of our generation.
3) Pray for good health both now and later with the physical adjustments to climate
change in going from an American winter to a hot, muggy rainforest Wow- icicles to
sweat drops!
4) Pray now for the busyness of this season for both of usnot only in preparing for
these upcoming ministry endeavors in Asia but also conscientious in our present
ministry obligations. Pray for Darryl as he begins studying the Paratext software for
translation editing done later in Asia-Pacific. Kyla is very busy with communications to
missionary teams and field leadership to arrange this upcoming literacy seminar.
5) Pray that our time both here and later in Asia to be not only focused on the mechanics
of equipping and training, but also encouraging others hearts to persevere as Gospel
workers working in an increasingly hostile world. (John 15:19)

Asia Bound!

Thanks so much to those of you who have partnered with us in seeing the Taliabo work develop
and progress over the years! And now, many continue to partner with us in our present
stateside ministry with Ethnos360 Mobilization. So how can you help our ministry and
particularly in this upcoming trip to Asia-Pacific? Well, prayer is really the most important
thing. Pray specifically, faithfully, and boldly, for travel, conversations, teaching, and other
ministries both now and later in Asia. And if God leads you to have an additional part in
supporting our upcoming trip to SE Asia financially, you can do so through our mission
headquarters or online below with a one-time gift. (BTW, please change to our NEW mission
address below, too) Thanks, again!
