Goals:

such.
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to:

b. Watch a 12 minute video and answer questions on the Peloponnesian War.
c. Watch a video with the understanding they can pause and go back to gain information they
missed.
d. Understand the differences between cause and effect.
e. Identify words that lead into cause and effect equations.
f. Find the causes and the effects of the Peloponnesian War.

Activity Details Interaction and Time Allotment

Warm-Up Warm-Up: In your opinion, was S-S

Pericles a good or bad leader? S-T
Why do you believe so? 10-15 minutes
(connection to information from
day before). Give students the
amount of time it takes for you to
check hw and take attendance to
complete warm-up. Check in with
students to see if they have
finished by asking, Who has not
completed the warm-up?. Give
more or less time depending on
the student's answer. Clap hands
to transition into pair-share of
warm-up. Explain to students they
are to turn to a neighbor, or join a
neighbors able and share their
warm-up. Explain that each person
is allotted 1 minute in which they
have the floor, and the other
partner is strictly listening
(Interpersonal and Intrapersonal).
Use online timer to organize this
process. Have students share out
something their partner said that
they liked.

Peloponnesian War reading and Explain learning target to Individual Student Work
annotation, as well as video students. They are to understand 20-35 minutes
watching the causes and effects of the
Peloponnesian War. They will
have 7-10 minutes to read the text
and annotate it based on the
learning target, individually
(Intrapersonal).
Pass out Peloponnesian War
Video Notes, and Reading. Have
students paste them in their ISN
on next available page(s), update
their table of contents, and clear
their desks of everything except a
pencil, ISN, computer, and
headphones. Have students grab
their ears when they are ready.
Explain they are going to watch a
video on the Peloponnesian War.
Ask students what they should do
when theyve missed some
information. In order to
differentiate for those students
who may take longer, speak
about being able to pause and go
back in the video to gain
information they have missed. Tell
students they have 20 minutes to
watch the video and fill in their
notes (Intrapersonal). Discuss the
timeline of the Peloponnesian
War.

Cause and effect explanation Transition through clapping into S-S

an explanation of cause and Students will have 3 minutes at
effect. Have kids define what a each station.
cause is, and what an effect is.
Give students an example using
the poster at the front of the room.
Next, count kids off from 1-5. 1s
will start at one photo, 2s at
another, etc. Students are to get 5
sticky notes and on each poster
around the room, paste a sticky
note with an effect on it. Discuss
this activity. This is great for
spatial, and visual learners, as
well as the naturalist because a
lot of the cause and effect
pictures have to do with nature
(ie an earthquake, rain, a glacier
falling into the sea). Cause and
effect activities already target
logical, mathematical thinkers
based on principle. Its great for
Intrapersonal and Interpersonal
learners too because they have
their individual thought (on the
sticky note) but they are in a
group.Then, allow students time
to go back into their
Peloponnesian War reading and
fill out their causes and effects
chart.

Pause and Check to make sure Clap to transition into checking Time varies
students are getting the correct over the answers with students.
idea about cause and effect. Have detailed conversation about
who is understanding cause and
effect and who is not. Use thumbs
up, thumbs in the middle, and
thumbs down to check for
understanding. If students are
struggling, pause the class and do
more examples with situations
such as: Drinking a lot of coffee,
Moving the treasury into Athens,
Pericles being a gifted
speaker...etc...

Go over Peloponnesian War Video After students have completed the S-S
Notes (if time). It is homework to video and notes, have students 5 minutes
