1. Explain reciprocity theorem.

2. Explain the significance of power factor in AC circuits.

3. List out the applications of different types of DC Motors.

4. Explain why the rating of transformers is in KVA?

5. Derive the expression for rotor frequency of induction motor.

6. Give the applications of Brushless DC motor.

PART-B

1. a) Define and explain the maximum power transfer theorem. (6M)


b) Two resistors 12 and 6 are connected in parallel and this combination
is connected in series with a 25 resistance and a battery which has an
internal resistance of 0.25 . Determine the emf of the battery if potential
difference across 6 resistance is 6 Volts. (6M)

2. a) Explain the following terms:


i) Average Value
ii) RMS value
iii) Form Factor (6M)

b) A choke coil takes a current of 2.5 A when connected across 250 V, 50 Hz
mains and consumes 400 watts. Find,
i) Power factor
ii) resistance of the coil
iii) inductance of the coil. (6M)

3. a) A 30 kW 300V DC shunt generator has armature and field resistance of


0.05 and 100 respectively. Calculate total power developed by the
armature when it delivers full load output. (6M)
b) Derive the expression for the torque developed by the DC motor. (6M)

4. a) Derive the expression for efficiency of a transformer and obtain the


condition for maximum efficiency. (6M)
b) A 25 KVA transformer has 500 turns on the primary and 50 turns on the
secondary winding. The primary is connected to 3000 V, 50 Hz supply.
Find the full load primary and secondary currents, the secondary e.m.f and
maximum flux in the core. Neglect leakage drops and no-load primary
current. (6M)

5. a) Explain the torque-speed and torque slip characteristics of induction


motor. (6M)
b) A 3-phase, 400V, 50 Hz, 4 pole induction motor has star connected stator
winding. The rotor resistance and reactance are 0.1 and 1 respectively.
The full load speed is 1440 rpm. Calculate the torque developed on full load
by the motor. (6M)

6. a) Explain the construction and principal of operation of universal motor. (6M)


b) List out the applications of servo motors. (6M)
