11.08 Variable Displacement Motor HMV 210-02 with proportional hydraulic control E1. 5
General description

This variable displacement motor HMV 210-02 is a swash-plate axial piston motor for closed loop
operation.
The flow of oil coming from the hydraulic pump is delivered to the high-pressure connection A (B) of the
hydraulic motor. The pressure fluid passes through the port in the port plate housing and the cylinder
block on to the end face of the piston, displacing it and setting the hydraulic motor in rotary motion.
The direction of rotation, to left (CCW) or right (CW), is determined by whether the pressure oil is admitted
into "A" or "B" port.
The motor is equipped with an proportional hydraulic displacement control and purging system

Function of proportional electro- hydraulic displacement control

A motor with this control system normally operates at "maximum displacement". The displacement is
electro- hydraulically variable, i.e. steplessly adjustable between maximum and minimum setting.
Servo pressure of minimum 20 bar is delivered to the control mechanism from the pilot circuit via connec-
tion port "E". This servo pressure is transmitted via pilot valve (1) in its normal position to that one of two
control pistons which effects a move towards "max. displacement", as long as the proportional solenoid
(10), stays de- energized. The second control piston is relieved to the inside of the motor housing via pilot
valve (1). When a pre- selected current is applied to the proportional solenoid (10), this generates a prop-
ortional magnetic force Fm1 on the pin, thereby pushing the pilot valve (1) against the feed back spring
Fm2, causing the control edges to open channel "E" with p control piston (Vmin) and to connect to tank
with p control piston (Vmax). Pressure in the actuating cylinder is increased until the swash plate swings
back and estabilishes an equilibrium condition of the forces Fm1 and Fm2 of the feed back spring. The pilot
then is in a balance position. The motor will hold this position until the current signal is changed. Owing to
this feedback system any intermediate positions from Vmax. to Vmin. can be accurately achieved by means
of the current at the proportional solenoid. The current values in the diagramme herebelow are to be
understood as examples.

Functional description

Linde purging system

The hydraulic motor is equipped with a Linde purging system. This comprises two scavenging systems:
> Circuit scavenging
> Case scavenging

Circuit scavenging
If temperature problems occur (e.g. in the case of high ambient temperature), the temperature in the
closed circuit can be substantially reduced by the scavenging system. The shuttle valve
(4) connects the low-pressure side to the discharge valve (5). The purge oil can then be cooled and fed
back into the system via a make up circuit (equipped in the Linde pump) to cool the closed loop.

Case scavenging
The heat generated in the rotating group of the hydraulic motor (bearings, linkages, slide faces) can only
be removed from the motor casing through the drained-off leakage. Under certain unfavourable operating
conditions, e.g. high motor speed and low operating pressure, the resulting leakage is not sufficient to
dissipate the frictional heat.
With the purging system a certain oil flow, according to the application, flows from the discharge valve (5)
into the casing of the hydraulic motor and then, after having scavenged the casing, drains off together
with the resultant leakage.

Functional description

How the purging valve system is working

When both high-pressure lines are without load and have only boost pressure (e.g. when the pump is in
the neutral position), the two pistons of the shuttle valve (4) (Fig 1) are in the springcentered position.
Operating fluid is unable to flow to the discharge valve (5) from either the high pressure connection "A"
or the high pressure connection "B".

Outlet
A

However, if high pressure (HP) builds up, for example on the A side, then this high pressuredisplaces
piston A1, driving piston B1 towards the low-pressure (LP) connection "B" (Fig 2).
The conical seat (6) on piston A1 acts as a stop, thereby simultaneously preventing high pressure fluid
from being transferred out of the spring chamber A1 towards the discharge valve (5). A dose oil flow is
discharged from the spring chamber B1 via discharge valve (5) into the motor housing.

General hints for fitting and installation

HMV-02. Variable motor for closed loop operation.

Installation of the hydraulic system must be completed according to the circuit and piping diagram and
the installation requirements of components as well as the technical data sheets, installation drawings
and operating instructions for closed loop applications.
Screws and fittings have to be secured with the prescribed torques, refer to appropriate table.

Filtration
In order to ensure functionality of the hydraulic components and their high efficiency, it is necessary to
select the purity class of the working fluid 18/ 16/ 13 or better, according to ISO 4406.
A high degree of oil purity clearly contributes to prolonging the life expectancy of the hydraulic system.
With modern filtration technology, however, much better values can be achieved which contributes
significantly to extending the life and durability of the complete hydraulic system: Pumps, Motors and
valves.
Recommended working viscosity range 10 - 80 [mm/S].
The Linde hydraulic system must not be operated in viscosity range < 10 [mm/s]!
