App 1

1. Which app did you choose?

MyScript calculator
2. Describe the features of this app that you like.
It is very helpful for students to be able to find answers to math questions easily and to draw
equations instead of typing them. The app has the ability to do many different math functions such
as cosine and tangent. Students wouldnt be very limited in their math equations.
3. At what grade level would you use this app?
You could use this app for any age, however, it can be tricky to give it to students too early. You
dont want to give them a crutch when learning math and it is important that they learn the basics
before being given a calculator to tell them the answers. I think I would use it in fourth grade or
above.
4. What do you like about this app?
I like that the app is fun to use and has students draw the math problems that they are trying to
solve. It is similar to writing them out. I also like that there are so many functions and types of math
problems that it will figure out for you. There is a tab under tutorial that allows you to see what math
functions it can perform.
5. What might be some of the challenges this app poses for teaching?
This app could be problematic for teaching because it gives answers to students instead of allowing
them to figure out the problem themselves. It can be helpful in checking work, but it could be used as
a crutch for math learning instead of furthering students learning.
6. What tasks would you have learners do with this app?
I would have learners check their work on the app. I wouldnt necessarily have students find out
answers on the app because it does not give them enough understanding as to how they made a
mistake when trying to complete the problem. Therefore, it is better for students to try on their own
and check their work for the correct answers.
7. What will this app help you teach?
This app will help me teach math and give me the ability to go around to students and help them with
the understanding behind finding the answer. I wont have to worry about helping the student find the
right answer necessarily, because they will be able to find it themselves on the app. But, it will give
me the ability to focus on building comprehension of the process that will get them to the right
answer.
8. How will this app engage students?
This app is engaging for students because it is interactive and has students draw using their finger,
which is a fun feature. It looks like their handwriting, which gives them ownership of the math
problems.
9. How will this app assist in developing a deeper understanding of the concept?
This app will give students answers to problems, which will show them if they are performing the
problem correctly or if they need to revisit it again.
10. How will this app be useful for learners with special needs, including ELLS, gifted
students and students with IEPs?
This app will help all students because it gives students answers to questions, whether or not they
understand the process. It could help students see answers and patterns to find answers, even if the
full understanding is not there yet. It is also interactive, which helps students with IEPs and special
needs work on motor skills and doing something more interactive than using a pencil. The app and
use of technology will be engaging and fun for them.
11. How can this app be used to support social interaction?
This app can be used to help students work together to find answers to questions and compare their
answers with each other on the app.
12. Does this app connect to students lives outside of school in some way? If so how?
This app can be used to help students find answers to their homework to check their work outside of
school, but it does not necessarily connect to their lives outside of the classroom. If students do not
have someone to help them with their work when they are at home, they can at least have
something that helps them find answers.
13. Is this app user friendly? What makes it so?
Yes, this app is user friendly. It allows students to use their fingers to find answers to their math
problems easily. It reads handwriting well, even if a student has sloppy handwriting. It is very simple,
because it reads the math equations that are drawn. That is its basic function.
14. What might be challenges that this app poses for students?
This app could be challenging for students because it gives them answers but does not tell them
how it got the answers. Understanding the process in math is so important, but the steps are not
provided for the students. However, you can change settings so that the answer is not given to the
user immediately, which would give more time to figure out the answer themselves.
15. What kind of feedback does this app provide
There is a function on the app that allows the problems and answers to be sent online to another
email or other social media app, which would provide the teacher with information on what the
student may need help on. If there are multiple problems of the same nature that the student is
drawing on the app, there will be evidence to show that they need more practice or help with that
concept, or that they are simply unsure and need to check their answers.

App 2

1. Which app did you choose?

Dragon Dictation
2. Describe the features of this app that you like.
This app is so helpful for capturing moments that you want to capture inside and outside of the
classroom. I like that this app is easy to use and simple to understand for all ages. There are not
many buttons to push in order to make the app function correctly. It is such a novel idea to turn
speech into text immediately and easily.
3. At what grade level would you use this app?
I would use this app for all ages in all classrooms. There could be students of all ages in classrooms
that need help in understanding how to write, read, and communicate to other people.
4. What do you like about this app?
I like that this app takes away the difficulty of not being able to communicate with other people
because of speech impediments or lack of understanding of how to write. A student may be able to
speak in one language, but not write it down. This app fills that gap for their communication and
learning.
5. What might be some of the challenges this app poses for teaching?
Students may rely too heavily on this app, therefore not motivating them to learn how to write by
themselves. This app also does not allow students to speak in more than one language at once,
which can be troublesome. Not all ELL students can speak every word in English or in another
language, therefore the app may not catch all that they have to say, and leave something out.
6. What tasks would you have learners do with this app?
This task can be helpful for all subjects for ELL students. It can help students see how to write
something out to copy onto a piece of paper and to communicate with each other and with me, as
the teacher. Students could write a paragraph and use the app to then translate the paragraph to
check their spelling and punctuation uses. That would be a helpful way of using the app for all
students, whether they are ELL or not.
7. What will this app help you teach?
This app will help me teach English, reading, and writing at a levels, from very basic to complex. It
will help with Language Arts comprehension as well as communication within and outside of my
classroom.
8. How will this app engage students?
This app engages students because it is their own speech or the speech of people around them that
will be translated and scripted for them to then read and comprehend. It helps students better
understand what is going on and can engage students who may feel isolated due to a lack of ability
to communicate their thoughts thoroughly with other people.
9. How will this app assist in developing a deeper understanding of the concept?
This app is very accurate in its spelling and dictation, therefore helping students work on their ability
to write and communicate more efficiently They will be able to see the correlation between sounds
they or someone else is making and the words that go with the sounds. Hopefully, this would also
enhance their reading ability.
10. How will this app be useful for learners with special needs, including ELLS, gifted
students and students with IEPs?
This app would help students with all types of special needs because of the ability to speak and see
the corresponding words as well as work on their reading skills. (see above question!)
11. How can this app be used to support social interaction?
This app can help students speak to each other that would not usually be able to speak to each
other through the translating ability and would give students a chance to write their thoughts
accurately to communicate with one another. It can often be difficult for students to write their
thoughts, but this app could eliminate the problem.
12. Does this app connect to students lives outside of school in some way? If so how?
Yes, this app can connect students to other people outside of school the same way that it can
connect students to people in their school. Students could use this app with family and friends at
home to communicate and work on their English skills outside of the classroom. This could even
help family members and friends work on English-speaking abilities who would otherwise not be able
to have resources to improve.
13. Is this app user friendly? What makes it so?
Yes, this app is user friendly. It is easy to navigate and there are clear steps to show the user when
to play, pause, and how to record the segment. The app records the voices and immediately gives
the user the documented information. The settings are also easy to navigate if a language other than
English is to be used.
14. What might be challenges that this app poses for students?
This app could be challenging for students if they do not know any English and could be used as a
crutch for students who do not want to put effort into learning how to write the language. If a student
didnt know a word, they could speak it into the app and find the answer without sounding it out or
using other resources available to them.
15. What kind of feedback does this app provide
This app provides feedback into what words the students do know and what words they still need to
learn. The level of English that they are able to write and comprehend can be seen through their use
of this app.

App 3

1. Which app did you choose?

Google Earth
2. Describe the features of this app that you like.
I like that Google Earth allows students to travel to places without having to have the money or
resources to actually go there and to learn about places even if they cant be there at that time. The
visual aspect of the app is very interesting and fun to use. The pictures and videos are quite
impressive and well done.
3. At what grade level would you use this app?
This app could be used in as early as first or second grade, but it is confusing to understand at some
points. There are a lot of buttons that perform a lot of functions, which is helpful for people with
specific tasks, but difficult for young learners. However, this would be a perfect app to use for older
students in history classes or classes in which they are doing research.
4. What do you like about this app?
I love the visual parts of this app and that it brings opportunities for students to be a part of different
areas of the world, even if they are not able to travel there themselves. It also has so many other
ways of learning facts about specific sites and areas of the world, as well as areas of space that
most children will never be able to see in their own lifetimes.
5. What might be some of the challenges this app poses for teaching?
This app could be very difficult for teachers to use in the classroom for children because the app is
hard for even adults to comprehend and use themselves. Students could get lost in the steps as to
what they are to do next. It could also require a lot of training of the students in order to get them to
truly understand and feel comfortable with using the app on their own.
6. What tasks would you have learners do with this app?
I would have learners research different areas of the world for history lessons, compare different
climates of the world in science, and see how cities have changed over decades. There is almost an
infinite amount of things that you can do with this app in your classroom. It can be applied to every
subject in some way, making it very versatile.
7. What will this app help you teach?
As I said in the previous question, this app would help me to teach all subjects. There are many
activities and functions on the app that could improve comprehension of each subject in school. It
would require a lot of knowledge myself, as the teacher, but students could alway sbe learning how
to use it in new ways.
8. How will this app engage students?
This app engages students through the visual effects and nature of the app. It draws the eye to it
and is very impressive in all of its uses.
9. How will this app assist in developing a deeper understanding of the concept?
The app is chock full of information about places all over the world, which will help with
comprehension on multiple different subjects in school. Students could also relate the information
that they find to other subjects and things they have learned in class.
10. How will this app be useful for learners with special needs, including ELLS, gifted
students and students with IEPs?
This app will be useful for students with special needs because it is easy to use and visual. Kids do
not need to be able to communicate much orally or physically in order to use the app and find out
more information. It would be very easy for ELL students to type in one place on Earth and learn a
multitude of things about it.
11. How can this app be used to support social interaction?
This app connects people to other parts of the world. It allows people to see places they may never
be able to see on their own and gives them opportunities to learn how other people live. It supports
social interaction of learning about people who are different from you and can give students things to
relate to and talk about in all classes and subjects.
12. Does this app connect to students lives outside of school in some way? If so how?
Yes, this app connects students to areas all over the world and in outer space. Again, they may
never be able to visit many of these places, but they can see them virtually and learn so many things
about each place. It gives them an idea of how large the world and space is and how small they truly
are. They can be wowed and overcome by the gravity of how large the world is and all that it
contains. It will affect their worldview greatly.
13. Is this app user friendly? What makes it so?
The basic functions of this app are somewhat easy to use and understand, but many of the functions
require a lot of steps and understanding that can be very confusing for all ages. I cannot imagine
using it for young students easily. However, it would be very helpful, as a teacher, to be able to learn
how to use the app and then use it in front of the classroom. That way, students do not need to
stress over how to work the app, but can benefit from having it used in their lessons and
demonstrations.
14. What might be challenges that this app poses for students?
The main challenge, as I have said before, is that students would, most likely, have a lot of difficulty
with using the app by themselves without much help or instruction.
15. What kind of feedback does this app provide
This app has the potential for providing programming feedback to teachers, It also can give feedback
for what students comprehend about the subjects in school that it is used for. However, there arent
too many ways for it to provide feedback the way that other apps provide feedback. It is different, but
still so helpful and engaging.
