Classroom Layout

This is a proposed layout for my business classroom. As you can see, one of the defining

traits of my classroom is how I have the desks set up. Students are set up in groups of four. The

four member of your group will become the ones that they will work with to complete in class

projects, their business plan, and any group work that we do. To further break this down,

students will have their partner who they sit next to and will complete pair and share activities

with them, test prep activities, and pair work together. Then, each group will have a partner
group for when we do large team activities such as group debates and review games. This allows

me the option to remove someone from a particular group if they are causing trouble, create

groups based on achievement level, personalities, or learning styles, and provide differentiation

activities based on how we sorted the students. I believe that having students grouped in this

manner will allow me to fulfill the idea that Teachers should allow every student to make

progress at their own learning pace'. (Betoret & Artiga, 2004 p. 360). This seating arrangement

allows me to tailor my students learning for whatever I wish to achieve in that particular year,

semester, or quarter.

Another essential trait of my classroom are the tables in the back. Those will be group

work tables, which is highly important for a business class. Business is a lot of communication,

group work, and relying on others. With such small desks that may already have to hold their

laptops, students wont have enough space to do much more than that. I think it is important to

have enough collaborative space for every student. The largest benefit of this layout is I can host

class from either side of the classroom. If the lesson for the day was an inquiry based, student led

lesson, I could have them all start at their group tables, explain the lesson, and get them working

on it immediately. If we are continuing work on a group project, I can have them just go back

and get started on that as soon as they come in. This arrangement allows for a lot of flexibility in

the classroom. I want my learning environment to be more student-centered which is when The

educational situation is organized around the student (Betoret & Artiga, 2004 p. 357). This can

be seen in how things are set up within my classroom to encourage discussion and students led

activities.

` The entrance to the classroom is in the top right corner of the classroom. Student laptops

will be located on the shelf in the top left of the classroom. Students will only be able to grab
their laptops if the laptop traffic light is green, yellow means that it can be used after you

complete the lesson assignment to complete other work, but is not necessary for the lesson, and

red means no laptops out. This will located next to the laptop storage case. There are a variety of

bookshelves around the classroom that will contain various class text books and reading

materials. The storage near the group tables will contain crafting supplies, coloring utensils, and

other creative means for projects. Having this close to where students complete their projects

will minimize the space the students have to travel, and also the space that the utensils have to

travel. This will cut down time spent meandering through the classroom, and the potential for

materials to walk off. There is a projector in the front of the classroom for lecture based lessons,

and video clips.
