What cases have you attended for Union Members?

I have attended a wide range of cases regarding members investigations/disciplinarys, welfare meetings,
appeals and grievances. These could range from PHS to conduct etc.

What other Union issues have you been involved in?

As a Union Rep and Safety Rep I have been involved in a number of issues:

Ballots
Reviewing and helping draw up a fair system when company want to review or implement new local policys
etc.

What Manager meetings do you attend?

QSHE Meetings and Senior Meetings also Policy Review Meetings etc.
What meetings do you think you should attend?

I think Union Reps and Safety Reps should attend any meeting that could have consequences regarding our
membership at K + N Brinklow and error meetings etc.

What do you think your role as a Shop Steward is within Brinklow?

This is a very good question, a very wide ranging question such as working on behalf of our members to
improve Terms and Conditions, have help when needed I.E information regarding K + N's Policy's and
Procedures, Communications between member and there elected representatives also matters effecting
their employment, support, encouragement and access to the Unions Specialist legal etc.

What should our Union do within Brinklow?

Try and get 100% density as this would put us the Union in a very strong position where it comes to
negotiation, wage deal etc.
Support members, improve Terms and Conditions for members, Working Conditions, Health and Safety,
Advice on Employment Laws through Union's Legal Deparment.

What do our Union do within Brinklow?

As a Union at the moment I feel we are reactive rather than proactive when it comes to dealing with issues
regarding our members.

What issues if any do you want to move forward on within your department/K + N?

Its not what I want, its what the members want as they are the Union and Union Reps speak on behalf of the
members who are the Union. The main issue is the bonus, how it is worked out, were the money (bonus)
goes when the member loses there bonus because of errors.

Who else does this issue affect apart from you?

This issue effects everybody in the chamber at Midway and the staff movement between Midway and
Brinklow, Brinklow and Midway (ambient) regarding loss of monies, investigation/disciplinarys/regarding
errors.

What control do you have on the outcome?

As a recognised Union (Unite) we should have some control as we are in partnership with K + N, and should
work together to resolve this issue.

What would enhance our Union Team?

The team of Shop Stewards are all striving for the same goal, helping our members in relation to there
employment and Terms and Conditions within the company K + N.
All Reps to take equal responsibility when dealing with membership, management, and not left to a few
members of the team.
If you start something, finish it. Don't had it onto another Rep and expect them to deal with it.
“Any body can load a gun” if you feel you are unable to rescue the issue ask for help, be a team player and
listen to advice, learn from other more experienced Shop Stewards. If you cant do this one should consider
there own position as a Shop Steward. As no Shop Steward is greater than the Union.
