1. To what extent were learning outcomes appropriate and achievable to your students?
I believe that our learning outcome of the differences between needs and wants
were achievable because we had a lot of repetition in our lesson plan. We did
multiple activities, worksheets and discussion about the topic.
2. How effective were your instructional strategies? What changes would you make in
your instructional approaches if you taught this lesson again? Why?
If I could do this again I would try to a lot a time at the end after the assessment
to regroup and re-discuss the activity we did in the beginning (categorizing
needs and wants). If extra time was available Id go over assessment questions
once all papers were turned in.
3. Evaluate the effectiveness of your oral and written communication with students.
(Consider how well you communicated learning objectives, clarity of directions, use of standard English, quality of
questions and effectiveness of discussion techniques.)
I felt that our discussion of the book and questions asked were effective to what
we were trying to get them to understand. I got good responses to my questions
that showed me they understood the message of the book.
4. Evaluate the level of student engagement in your lesson . (Consider how you presented the
content/skills, the activities and assignments for students, grouping of students, and structure and pacing of the
lesson.)
Overall, the students were engaged throughout our lesson. They enjoyed the
book, participated in discussion and enjoyed the activity on the iPad. All
students got to participate in the iPad activity.
5. How effectively did you use instructional materials, resources, and/or technology?
I felt that our materials and resources were used effectively. If I could change
one thing I wish every child had an iPad in their hand instead of having to come
up to one iPad to participate in the activity. If all of them had it on an ipad they
could be even more hands on.
6. To what extent were your assessment strategies effective? What changes would you
make in your assessment approach if you taught this lesson again? Why?
I could tell from our discussion that they understood the difference between
needs and wants, but our assessment portion of the lesson definitely needed
the most improvement. Many students did not have time to finish the full
assessment, so they were not completely effective. If I taught this lesson again I
would keep better track of time to make sure we could finish everything.
7. To what extent was your feedback to students accurate, substantive, constructive,
specific, and/or timely?
I felt that our student feedback was pretty timely and constructive because while
students were working on the worksheets we rotated around the room
answering questions.
8. To what extent did the classroom management and environment contribute to student
learning? (Consider your classroom procedures, your use of physical space, and the students conduct.)
Our classroom management helped student learning because there wasnt a lot
of commotion on the carpet during discussion. This way every student could
see and hear the lesson.
9. Did you make modifications to your lesson plan during the lesson? If so, what were
they and what motivated these changes?
We had to cut time on a few students handouts to get to the assessment.
10. Was your Teaching Behavior Focus goal met?
I felt that I did well on calling on a variety of people, but I could continue to do
better on increasing my wait time.
