MASTERS DREGREE MAJIOR PROJECT:

STUDY OF METAL LOSS DUE TO SILT EROSION OF HYRO TURBINES BY USING MILD STEELTO TEST
UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS (POT TEST RIG).

ABSTRACT
Mild steel test specimen set at angles of 50, 450 and 900 to the slurry flow direction were exposed to silt attack in a pot test rig in the laboratory. The
total period of exposure of the specimen to the silt attack was maintained for four hours, at steps of one hour interval each. SiO 2 particles in the size
range of 90-250m were embedded with tap water to constitute the slurry. The slurry concentration was maintained at 7500 ppm. The shaft carrying
the test specimen was rotated at 4032rpm in the slurry to maintain an equivalent water head of 89.86metres. The surface hardness of the specimen
increased progressively with the increase in the time of exposure. Maximum average metal loss was recorded for the sample inclined at 450 to the
direction of silt flow while it was minimum for the 90 0 sample. The experimental results were in good agreement with the theoretical calculated value
for metal loss obtained using Finnies Model.

BECHOLER DEGREE MAJOR PROJECT:

OPTIMIZATION OF INJECTION PRESSURE WITH COMPUTERIZED DIESEL TEST RIG BY USING THRIBBLE
BLEND BIODIESEL .

ABSTRACT
This project deals with alternative fuels. Here we have tried to use triple blend biodiesel instead of conventional single blend biodiesel. Triple blend
is nothing but, using three different oils blending with diesel. We have tried to increase the performance of diesel engine by varying injection
pressure using triple blend biodiesel as fuel. The oils were non edible. We concluded that the performance of the engine was better and there was no
problem using biodiesel as fuel.
