2220/2200/2700A Actuator Sizing Instructions
This program helps you select an Actuator size and determine the air pressure
required to open or close the valve.
The cells, or blocks, where you enter inputs are shaded. The green cells are
mandatory, the blue cells are optional. There are prompts to the right of the green
mandatory cells. As choices are made, the prompts may change showing which
inputs are valid according to the prior inputs.
The Customer, Tag Number and Item Number entries are optional.
There are twelve inputs required to select the actuator, they are mandatory
Choose the Inlet Pressure, Outlet pressure (usually zero), Valve Series, Valve Size,
Trim Style, Seat Leakage Class, Packing Material, Flow Direction
Trim Size, Actuator Size, Yoke Size and whether Throttle or On/Off service.
On/Off and Throttle Service applies to the 2200/2220, Use only Throttle Service for the 2700A
Teflon is most commonly used packing material but Grafoil is used for
high operating temperatures, above 400F, and has a higher stem
friction load than Teflon.
Note: When using Unbalanced Trim with the flow down, the "Required Stem
Load" may be negative. The valve's pressure drop may be holding the valve closed.
When opening and the load quickly decreases, the valve will jump towards full open.
The Direct Acting Air pressure, for Throttling service, is increased
to minimize the plug travel jump when the valve opens.
There is no increase for On/Off service.
The spring should be should be bench adjusted (with no valve pressure)
to contact the seat at this pressure.
The Input page can be printed by clicking the printer icon when viewing
the Input page
To clear a column, place the cursor in the top box, press and hold Shift
and the tap the Down key until you reach the bottom of the column.
Or To clear a column, place the cursor in the top box, Hold the left mouse
button and drag to the bottom of the column. Then press Delete.
The easiest way to clear a page is to save it cleared and the recall it when
you are starting a new application.
If you get an automatic UP when entering U in the flow direction, click tools,
click options, click the Edit tab and remove the X from "Enable AutoComplete
for Cell Values"
The Stem Load and Trim Travel are shown as reference information.
