This hat is worked in rounds. You will not turn your work until the earflaps. This will be noted in
the instructions.

Hdc2tog (Hdc decrease): YO, insert hook into next st, and again into the next st. YO, pull up a
lp, YO, draw yarn through all three lps on hook.
MBS (Medium Bean Stitch): Insert hook into next st and pull up a lp, (YO, insert hook into same
st and pull up another lp) 2 times. You should now have 6 lps on your hook. YO and pull
through all 6 lps. Ch 1.

I worked this hat in two ways:

Color A (CA) Flannel CA Princess Pebbles


Color B (CB) Soft Red CB Flannel
Color C (CC) Princess Pebbles CC Soft Red

Rnd 1: (RS) With CA, in magic circle, ch 1, hdc 6, join. (6)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in ea st around, join. (12)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 hdc in ea st around, join. (24)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around, join. (36)

Rnd 5: Ch 1, *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around, join. (48) Do not fasten off
CA; let it hang at the back of your work.

Rnd 6: With CB, ch 1, *work MBS in next st, sk next st; rep from * around, do not ch 1 on the
final MBS, join to top of first MBS. Fasten off CB. (24 MBS)

Rnd 7: With CA, ch 1, *hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around, working last 2 hdc
in the sp under the joining sl st from Rnd 6; join. (60)

Rnds 8-10: Ch 1, hdc around, join. (60) Do not fasten off CA at the end of Rnd 10; let it hang
at the back of your work.

Rnd 11: With CC, ch 1, *work MBS in next st, sk next st; rep from * around, do not ch 1 on the
final MBS, join to top of first MBS. Fasten off CC. (30 MBS)

Rnd 12: With CA, ch 1, hdc around, working last hdc in the sp under the joining sl st from Rnd
11; join. (60)

Rnds 13-15: Ch 1, hdc around, join. At end of Rnd 15 or when hat is 4 long, fasten off CA.
Hat should measure about 6.5 across.

Row 16: Skip the first 11 sts of Rnd 15. With CA, draw up a lp in the 12th st (Figure 1). Ch 1,
hdc 7, fasten off. DO NOT TURN. (7)

Row 17: Starting at the beg of Row 16, with CB, draw up a lp in first st (Figure 2). Ch 1, (work
MBS, sk 1) 3 times, work MBS in last st, but do not ch 1. Fasten off. DO NOT TURN. (4 MBS)

Row 18: In first MBS st of Row 17, draw up a lp with CA; ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 3, hdc2tog, TURN.

Row 19: Ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc, hdc2tog. Fasten off. (3)

Row 16: Skip the next 22 unworked sts on Rnd 15. With CA, draw up a lp in the 23rd st. Ch 1,
hdc 7, fasten off. DO NOT TURN. (7)

Rows 17-19: Rep Rows 17-19 of Right Earflap.

With CC, draw up a lp in first st of Rnd 15. Ch 1, sc 11. Sc2tog in next st of Rnd 15 and edge
of Row 16. Sc 4 along side edge of earlap. Work 2 sc in ea of the 3 sts on Row 19. Sc 4 along
other edge of earflap. Sc2tog in edge of Row 16 and next st of Rnd 15. Sc 20. Sc2tog in next
st of Rnd 15 and edge of Row 16. Sc 4 along side edge of earlap. Work 2 sc in ea of the 3 sts
on Row 19. Sc 4 along other edge of earflap. Sc2tog in edge of Row 16 and next st of Rnd 15.
Sc 11, join. Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.

With CC, make a 2 pom-pom. Attach to Rnd 1 of hat. Weave in ends.

With CC, cut 18 strands of yarn about 18 long. You will use 9 strands for ea earflap. Working
from the inside of the earflap, insert hook in middle st of Row 19 (Figure 3) and draw up a lp
with the strands of yarn (Figure 4). Pull ends through the lp to secure (Figure 5). Braid the
strands until braid is about 2.5-3 long. Tie with matching piece of yarn. Cut tassel ends so
they are even.
