James F. Christie, . Christie, Ph.D., is a professor of curriculum and instruction at
Arizona State University in Tempe, where he teaches courses in language, literacy, and
early childhood education. His research interests include childrens play and early
literacy development. James is the president of the Association for the Study of Play.
Donald J. Richgels, Donald J. Richgels, Ph.D., is a professor in the literacy education
department at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where he teaches graduate and
undergraduate courses in language development, reading, and language arts.
