INTRODUCTION

Ibuprofen is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory group drug which act by obstructing


prostaglandins, chemicals that can cause inflammation in the body. Its also used to release
pain and swelling. Ibuprofen inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins in body tissues by inhibiting
cyclooxygenase-1 and 2. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties. The
molecular formula of ibuprofen is C13H18O2 and molecular weight is 206.285 g/mol. The
chemical structure of ibuprofen is shown below:

Ibuprofen is colourless, crystalline stable solid with characteristic smell and melting point is
75-77.5C.Its water solubility is 21 mg/L (at 25 C) and its readily soluble in most organic
solvents. Ibuprofen also given in hospitals in liquid form through the veins, or intravenously
(IV) in certain situation. Ibuprofen take with food or milk can lessen stomach upset. The
ibuprofen chewable tablet must be chewed before swallow it.

Ibuprofen can increase the risk of heart problems such as heart attacks, strokes, and blood
clots. Besides that, it also can damage the lining of stomach and can cause stomach ulcers and
heartburn. The ibuprofen should avoided if patient have allergy to it. Ibuprofen can cause side
effects in elderly patients easily such as sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, loss of balance, and
severe stomach complications. Though, low doses of ibuprofen be likely to be a safer choice
for elderly patients than most other painkillers. Ibuprofen has been reported to be a
photosensitizing agent.
Moreover, alcohol should avoided when taking ibuprofen because it can increase risk of
stomach bleeding. Besides, avoid taking aspirin while taking ibuprofen because can make
aspirin less effective in protecting heart and blood vessels. If having allergic reaction to
ibuprofen like sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, wheezing or trouble breathing, hives, swelling
of your face, lips, tongue, or throat must get immediate medical help. The parameters thats
should monitor when taking ibuprofen are CBC, occult blood loss, hepatic and renal function.
This medication should store between 20-25C and protect it from light.

OBJECTIVE

To identify analysis of ibuprofen and the content and quantity of ibuprofen in the drug
suspension.
To determine the percentage recovery of ibuprofen
