business. No one will trust you with that money without being sure that you can
do the job. NO ONE! This is why 99% of all civil consultancies and contractors
are founded by people with 10-15-20+ years of experience. The sad truth is that
in this business there is no fast track, there are (almost) no inspirational young
entrepreneurs. But still, if you, at some point of your career, decide to start
something, have the right experience, connections, leadership skills, and track
record, the chances are that your company will probably have at least $1m
turnover in the rst several years (it takes just a couple mid-size projects to
achieve this).

P.S. I don't consider online platforms, environmental chemical processes,

materials, or software, to be civil engineering startups. Clearly, such companies
require dierent skills and knowledge.

engineering in the expansive days of the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries but not so much today.

Going into any eld, with the possible exception of nancial services, for the
purpose of getting rich is generally doomed to failure. The people who succeed
are those with a drive and passion for the work for whom the nancial rewards
are secondary.

In any case, civil engineering, of whatever sort you may mean, is a mature and
established eld with few if any opportunities for exceptional, sudden growth. If
you want to get rich in the eld the best bet is to do it the old fashioned way, that
is slowly.

There are indeed civil start ups but in areas like construction materials, the
capital is very high initially (usually). In a few other disciplines like
environmental engineering, there are indeed smaller consultancy start ups. A
few good projects and you can start increasing your market value. Higher
studies in civil engineering has proven to be fruitful in quite a few cases. But if
you are meaning salaries of 1 million dollars or higher (equivalent to 30 lac plus
in India-After PPP conversion), then i guess it is very dicult unless you rise up
to the very high ranks and have loads of experience
