To Whom This May Concern,

This correspondence is in regards to the open registered nurse position in the nurse
residency program at the Scottsdale/Phoenix Mayo Clinic. I am graduating in December
2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Arizona and am
extremely interested in this new opportunity. Throughout my extensive schooling, I have
had many experiences in several rotations. Despite my exposure to a multitude of areas,
my interests continue to circle back to critical care. During my third semester critical
care rotation, I had the pleasure of spending three weeks in Banner University Medical
Centers level 1 Trauma Intensive Care Unit. In addition, I extended my critical care
knowledge and skill set on the intermediate medical care unit/progressive care unit at
Banner UMC Tucson campus. This 5 week long preceptorship required a full time
commitment, averaging three 12-hour shifts a week. Such a well-rounded educational
position has allowed me to expand upon the critical thinking skills necessary in critical
care areas. Quick decisions may need to be made, as these patients can easily take a turn
for the worst in a matter of seconds. Having witnessed, and taken part, in rapid responses
has allowed me to become more capable in recognizing when a critically ill patient may
become unstable and how to proceed in a calm but swift manner. In addition, I have
honed my assessment skills, for this is a crucial component upon which all other nursing
actions are based upon. Finally, I expanded my holistic nursing abilities. Due to the
nature of the unit, total patient care was valued. I was afforded the opportunity to work
entirely with the patient as well as the families, practicing the truest form of nursing in
my eyes.

Additionally, I firmly believe and agree with your mission to contribute to the health and
well-being of the community with the integration of research and education. I can full-
heartedly contribute to this philosophy, as an individual always willing to serve, learn,
and teach.

I would be thrilled to be a part of the critical care team at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale campus,
as I believe this is a perfect first step for me as a soon-to-be registered nurse.

Sincerely,
Cecilia McGalliard
