UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


This lesson plan is to classify animals by their differences in a graphic organizer.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Compare the differences between mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Common Core Standard for Life Science: Heredity: Inheritance and Variation of Traits

MATERIALS:
Computer with internet
Pencil
Checklist given to them by teacher
Online graphic organizer (Kidsperation)
Technology will be integrated in this lesson by the students will research four facts about each part (mammals,
reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects. Then they will use Kidsperation 3 to build a graphic organizer of their facts
they have found on the internet.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


The students will know the different traits about mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.
Vocabulary associated with this lesson: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, traits, graphic organizer
This lesson connects with and builds on previous lessons because we learned about plants and know we
understand how animals have different traits.
There will be future lessons on what are the similar traits of these types of animals.
The lesson or technology will be modified to meet the needs of diverse leaners.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction: The teacher will start off explaining to the children that they will get to use computers to
look up the facts about mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects. The teacher will then show a
video made by her/him to show them how to use kidspiration3. This will help the students understand
how to use the technology for the lesson. (3 min)
Procedures: 60 minute lesson

MODIFICATIONS:
I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this
particular lesson. Lesson activities include individual work, using the computer as well as making a
graphic organizer on the computer.
