Fue fundada en el ao de 1,900 por don Porfirio Betancourth Hurtado, como

conjunto de marimba sencilla o diatnica. A partir de 1920 fue integrada por
sus hijos: Mariano Rubn, Efran, Rafael, Jos, Porfirio y Fabin
Betancourth, con el nombre de MARIPIANO BETANCOURTH, siendo
esta ya una Marimba Cromtica interpretando toda clase de msica.

It was founded in the year of 1,900, by Mr. Porfirio Betancourth

Hurtado, as a group of single or diatonically marimba. Since 1920
it was integrated by his sons: Mariano, Ruben, Efran, Rafael, Jos,
Porfirio and Fabian Betancourth, with the name of MARIPIANO
BETANCOURTH, being already a Chromatic Marimba playing all
kind of music.

A travs del tiempo se piensa en cambiarle el nombre y denominarla:

MARIMBA NACIONAL, en el ao de 1930, interpretando msica popular
y clsica en marimba pura. Por la muerte de Don Porfirio deciden continuar
usando nombre. Despus de cierto tiempo sugieren cambiarle nuevamente el
nombre y denominarla MARIMBA ALMA DE XELAJ DE LOS
HERMANOS BETANCOURTH Y HURTADO, integrndose a este
conjunto Don Luis Hurtado, Don Manuel Hurtado y Don David Hurtado
durante este tiempo fueron sembrando triunfos.

Through the time, they thought to change its name and denominate
it as: MARIMBA NACIONAL, on the year 1930, playing popular
and classical music in Poor Marimba. Because Mr. Porfirios death
they decided to continue with that name. After, they changed that
name again and call it MARIMBA ALMA DE XELAJU OF
BETANCOURTH AND HURTADO BROS., at that time, many
successes were reached by the sirs Luis, Manuel, and David
Hurtado.

En el ao del 1950 deciden llamarla MARIMBA PRINCESITA, DE LOS

HERMANOS BETANCOURTH con la que empiezan a cosechar los
grandes triunfos que anteriormente haban sembrado.
En el ao 1975, a raz de la muerte de Don Mariano los hermanos Betancourt
y Hurtado deciden retirarse por un tiempo ya que la edad y las enfermedades
pasajeras los estaban desgastando, posteriormente deciden hacer grabaciones
y formar un conjunto denominndolo HERMANOS HURTADO Y
BETANCOURTH.

In the year of 1950, they decided to name the Group of Marimba as

MARIMBA PRINCESITA OF BETANCOURTH BROS, with
which they started to get the same greatest successes that they had
gotten before.
In 1975, because the Mr. Marianos death, the Betancourth and
Hurtado brothers decided to leave the field during a period of time
because their sicknesses and their age were finishing with their
lives, then they decided make records and to form a group called
HURTADO AND BETANCOURTH SONS.

En el ao de 1,985 se da el sensible fallecimiento de don Luis Hurtado, Don
Manuel Hurtado y Don Rubn Betancourt. Quedando nicamente Don Fabin
Betancourt quien decide ya no trabajar ms en la marimba y dedicarse a
ensear el arte que noblemente aprendi, heredndola a sus nietos Luis y Julio
Taracena Betancourt. En el ao de 1,992 muere don Fabin Betancourt, Y en
el ao de 1,994 en homenaje a esos grandes artistas del arte nacional que
hicieron historia por ms de cien aos de fomentar, promover y divulgar la
marimba guatemalteca en todo el mundo Luis y Julio Taracena Betancourt
deciden formar nuevamente el conjunto, denominndolo MARIMBA
PRINCESITA DE LOS HERMANOS BETANCOURTH.

In 1985 it was the death of the sirs Luis, Manuel Hurtado and Mr.
Ruben Betancourth. Then Mr. Fabian Betancourth decided not to
work in the marimba field anymore and he started to teach that
great art to his grandsons Luis and Julio Taracena Betancourth. In
1992, Mr. Fabian Betancourth died, and in 1994, in honor to those
great artists of the national art who made history during more than
one hundred of years to found, and announce the Guatemalan
Marimba around the world Luis and Julio Taracena Betancourth
decided to join that group again, calling it MARIMBA
PRINCESITA OF BETANCOURTH BROS.

Marimba Princesita es una entidad dedicada al estudio, promocin difusin

y desarrollo de todo cuanto corresponde a la marimba, El instrumento
Nacional de Guatemala y su repertorio musical, para lo cual tiene como
principios fundamentales, la dignificacion de la Marimba y el Marimbista.

Marimba Princesita is an organization dedicated to the study,

promotion and develops of all about MARIMBA, The national
instrument of Guatemala and its music, and its bases are the
respect forwards the Marimba and the Marimbista.

Desde su fundacin han delineado una curva de actividades con su propio

tempo, es decir, con su ritmo, marcado por pequeos y grandes avances.
Como es inevitable, esta institucin ha tenido momentos difciles e inciertos,
contratiempos e inconvenientes que han ido despejando poco a poco, gracias
a la claridad de objetivos, empeo, nimo y vigilancia de sus integrantes.

Since the foundation of this group they have written a line with its
own tempo, in other words, with its own rhythm, with little and big
advances. This institution has had hard moments which they have
known how to solve step by step, thanks to the clearness and
encourage of each member.
