Transit of Planets and Its Significance in Our

Lives
A birth chart or the Natal chart of an individual is the snapshot of
the planetary positions at the time of the birth of that individual.
This birth chart shows us all the great, good, bad and uglier things
that are going to happen in that persons life in the future. A birth
chart is like the blueprint of promises that the life makes with that
particular person. It shows all the Yogas that can make a person
rich or poor, king or pauper, healthy or sick, happy or sad. What it
doesnt tell us though is about the exact time of fruition of all the
promises and predictions.

To properly time the events in the persons life that have been
predicted by assessing the birth chart, we need to consider two
more vital elements of Vedic Astrology. They are the Gochara or
Transit of Planets and the Dasha system.
So what it means is that the Rasi or the Birth Chart indicates the
potential, the Dashas indicate the time and the Gochara or the
Transits indicate the final triggering of these events.

What is the Transit of Planets?

Transit basically means the movement of planets through various
Signs of Zodiac. These movements cause benefic and ill effects on
the individual depending on the amount of positive and negative
things that have been mentioned in the birth chart. These results
are called as Gochara Phala or the effect of Transit of Planets.
Gochara or the Transit relates to the movement of a planet at a
particular point of time.
Important Points to Remember
When Assessing the Effect of
Transit of Planets
When looking for the Transit effects in a chart the Natal Moon
is always taken as the primary reference point instead of the
Lagna or the Ascendant. Although some people prefer to take
both the Lagna and the Moon as the reference points classical
texts of Vedic Astrology give importance to the Natal Moon.
Different
planets produce different results when transiting
over various houses in the chart. They produce benefic and
malefic results depending on their placement from the natal
Moon. Good results produced by these planets can be
obstructed when some other planets occupy certain other
houses. This phenomenon is called Vedha (Obstruction).
Sun and Saturn do not cause Vedha to each other. Similarly
Moon and Mercury do not cause Vedha to each other. These
are the Father- Son duos.
Theresults of benefic and Vedha positions are reversed when
the planets transit the Vedha positions and there is an
another planet in the benefic position. For example, Sun gives
benefic result in the 3rd house unless there is Vedha from the
9th house. This is reversed when Sun is transiting the 9th
house itself. In this instance Sun will give bad results unless
there is an another planet creating obstruction from the 3rd
house. What it means is that Vedha obstructs evil effects as
well as beneficial effects of planets in certain positions.

Benefic and Vedha Positions for

Various Planets Considered
from the Natal Moon During
Transits
Sun Sun produces benefic results during transit when in
the 3,6,10 and 11th houses from the Natal Moon. Vedha
positions are 9,12,4,5. What it means is that the Sun produces
benefic results when transiting the third house, unless there is
an obstructing planet in the ninth house, from the Moon (or
lagna!). Similarly, its sixth house transit is good unless
obstructed from the twelfth house, and so on.
Moon Benefic transits are 1,3,6,7,10 and 11. and Vedha
positions are 5,9,12,2,4,8
Mars Benefic transits 3,6 and 11. Vedha are 12,9,5
Mercury Benefic transits are 2,4,6,8,10 and 11 and Vedha
positions are 5,3,9,1,8 and 12
Jupiter Benefic transits are 2,5,7,9 and 11. Vedha positions
are 12,4,3,10 and 8
Venus Benefic transits are 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,11,12 and Vedha
positions 8,7,1,10,9,5,11,3,6
Saturn Benefic transits and Vedha positions of Saturn are
similar to those of Mars.
