5th Grade Objectives (Specific Virginia SOL):

5.1 The student will demonstrate mature movement forms, create movement patterns, and begin to
describe movement principles.
a) Demonstrate mature form in locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skill combinations
in more complex and dynamic environments and modified sports activities, to include overhand and
underhand throw and catch, execution to a target, hand dribble, foot dribble, consecutive striking with a
partner over a net or against a wall, and striking a ball while stationary and moving.
e) Demonstrate accuracy in a variety of activities.
f) Demonstrate use of force in a variety of activities.

Equipment Required: 20-30 basketballs, 15-20 cones, 10-15 poly spots

the other side.

Station 3: Partner Passing

At this station the students
will pair up with another
student in their group. There
will be cones set up that each
group will work on bounce
passing between. After a few
minutes the students will
switch and work on chest
passes to each other.

Station 4: Short Shots

For this station there will be
poly spots spread out at the
goal for the students to shoot
at. Each student will have a
ball and will practice dribbling
to different spots and
shooting from there.

Station 5: Foul Shots

For this station the students
will be lined up around the
foul line. 1 student will get
two chances to shoot a foul
shot then they will rotate. If
the student needs to take a
couple of steps up to reach
the goal they will be allowed
to do so.

Station 6: Baseline Test

At this station, the teacher will
have a checklist of skills for
each student. There will be
three drills set up to test the
skills of dribbling, shooting,
passing and defending.

Dribbling/Defense:
The teacher will place two
cones spread out about 15
feet apart. One student will
start with a ball at one of the
cones. Another student will
start in front of the student
with the ball and will attempt
to guard them as they try to
dribble to the other cone.

Passing:
The teacher will have two
students stand a few feet
apart. She will ask them to
demonstrate 3 bounce passes
each and 3 chest passes each.

Shooting:
The teacher will ask the
students to shoot from any of
the poly spots on the floor.
Each student must take 5
shots.

Goal 2:
Station 1: Cone Dribbling
Directions:
Divide your group into two smaller groups.
Each group will get at one of the two lines of
cones.
The person at the beginning of the line will
dribble through the cones and back.
Once you've made it back to the beginning, pass
the ball to the next person in line and go to the
back of the line.
Station 2: Lay-Ups
Directions:
Divide your group up into 2 smaller groups.
One group will start on the right corner of the foul
line. The other group will start on the left corner.
Each group will start out with a ball.
The student in the front of the line will dribble down
until they get close to the goal. Once they get close
they will try to shoot the ball in the basket.
Once you shoot, get your rebound and give it to the
next person in your line then go to the back of the line.
After a few minutes, both lines should switch sides. If
your line was on the right, move to the left.
Station 3: Partner Passing
Directions:
Get into groups of two.
You stand on one side of the cones and have
your partner stand across from you.
Practice bounce passing between the cones back
and forth.
After a few minutes, practice chest passing back
and forth.
Station 4: Short Shots
Directions:
Each student will have their own ball.
Dribble around and practice shooting from the
poly spots.
You should only shoot from the designated poly
spots. Do not shoot from random places on the
floor.
Station 5: Foul Shots
Directions:
One person will start out on the foul line.
The rest of the group will start out around the
foul line.
Each person will have two chances to shoot then
everyone will rotate to the left.
