Greek life at the University of Central Florida is all about connecting with your peers and
supporting a greater cause. Throughout the chapters at this university, both sororities and
fraternities come together to raise money and support a vast number of organizations through
their philanthropies. The skills you learn throughout your time in Greek life will stick with you
and will be beneficial in the years ahead of you. You will be able to build the foundation for your
future, networking in companies, and could use the interaction of your philanthropy to help
others see your passion for the love of these causes. The bonds of friendship will last a life time
and set a precedent for the relationships you will make with colleagues in your future career.
Philanthropy, is the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the
generous donation of money to good causes. Out of all twelve sororities and eighteen fraternities,
here are some of the most successful philanthropies we have here at the University of Central
Florida: Ronald McDonald House represented by Alpha Delta Pi, Breast Cancer Education and
Awareness represented by Zeta Tau Alpha, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital represented by
Neuville 2
Delta Delta Delta, Prevent Child Abuse America represented by Kappa Delta, and the Huntsman
Cancer Institute represented by Sigma Chi. Each and every one of these chapters represents the
University of Central Floridas Greek life very well through the effort and a giving heart.
Alpha Delta Pi is a sorority house on campus that supports the Ronald McDonald House,
and hosts an event every year called Cheers for Charity. This event could also be known as their
annual philanthropy event to raise money and love for their philanthropy. This occasion is a
cheer competition between all sororities, fraternities, and athletic teams to show out their best
flips and tricks for the judges, and raise money for a great cause. The overall winner of the
money and cheerleading portion of the competition, will take home the big trophy at the end and
celebrate with their sisters over the support of, not only their own philanthropy, but the support
of Alpha Delta Pis philanthropy, The Ronald McDonald House. This organization helps provide
a home away from home for families with children who are in need of medical attention. As a
whole, Alpha Delta Pi has raised more than five million for their philanthropy through hard work
and dedication. Throughout the year, other than hosting events, they help with the upkeep of the
houses to spending time with the guests and preparing homemade meals for the families who are
staying there. The Alpha Delta Pi philanthropy has brought awareness to me that there is so
much in life to be thankful for and that giving the smallest amount to a family in need can not
only bring happiness and joy to the family, but a realization of what is truly important in life to
yourself. Being able to assist a child in need can become addicting once you see a smile light up
on their face and it only makes you want to continue to contribute to the cause. Quote by Elma
Breast Cancer Education and Awareness is represented by Zeta Tau Alpha and they host
the event, Zeta Lip Sync every fall semester. As a new member in the Greek life here at the
Neuville 3
University of Central Florida, I had to participate in this years Lip Sync event. The dance
competition is between Greek Life's Sororities and Fraternities new member classes, and its
based on the best dance overall and the most money raised. During the event, all sororities and
fraternities finally get to show off all of their hard work and practice, and compete to win the title
of Zeta Tau Alpha's "Lip Sync" champions. This event touches a lot of hearts because the judges
are people that have fought the battle of breast cancer and they all shared their stories up on stage
during the intermission of the event. The true meaning of Panhellenic love was shown right at
this moment because no matter what sorority or fraternity youre in, everyone as a whole was
there supporting this great organization. This year Zeta Lip Sync has broken the records at the
University of Central Florida for the third year in a row, raising $35,000 for the Zeta Tau Alpha
foundation which supports Breast Cancer Awareness. According to Sam Necolettos (current
member of Zeta Tau Alpha), It was such a great opportunity to bond with my pledge class and
be able to see everyones hard work and dedication pay off for such an amazing cause.
The St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital is all about finding cures for childhood cancer
and other life-threatening diseases. Delta Delta Delta is in charge of the St. Jude Childrens
Research Hospital philanthropy and goes above and beyond every year for this organization.
Throughout the year the chapter as a whole at the University of Central Florida and
internationally continue to donate goods, volunteer time and host fundraisers for the research and
treatment of children with cancer. The event that is hosted here at UCF is Delta Hold Em. This
event is basically a casino brought right to the house of Delta Delta Delta on Greek St. at the
University of Central Florida. All members of fraternities, sororities, and UCFs student body are
welcome to participate in this event. This event is host to multiple gambling-like games set up to
support the philanthropy as well as provide the participants with a fun and memorable time.

Delta Hold Em is a great event because it isnt a competition between Greek Life, it involves
everyone at this university. Over the past 10 years, Tri Delta as a whole has raised $60 million.
This was the single largest fundraising commitment in St. Judes history. Here is a quote from
Rebecca Thompson, a current member of Delta Delta Delta; her sororities philanthropy is
especially important to her due to her personal connection, St. Jude means so much to me
because my dad has suffered from cancer all my life so being able to be a part of a philanthropy
Have you ever turned off the television when the abusing of animals commercial came
on? I know I have. Imagine if it wouldve been child abuse. Preventing Child Abuse is an
astounding philanthropy that Kappa Delta represents here at the University of Central Florida.
Their biggest fundraising event they host every fall semester is the famous KD Shakedown. This
is a dance competition that sororities and fraternities compete in to win the 1st place trophy. This
is similar to Zeta Lip Sync, but it doesnt just involve the new members, its the chapter as a
whole. This past year, the KD Shakedown event raised over $24,000 for the Prevent of Child
Care Abuse. As a whole with Kappa Delta at the University of Central Florida and
internationally, they have raised two million. Quote from Stacey Mageropolous on the outcome
of this years KD Shakedown: Seeing everyone out there this year was an amazing touch to all
of Kappa Deltas hearts. We are so glad we are in such a supported organization such as Greek
life through which we can support our amazing philanthropy PCCA. Go Knights !
The Huntsman Cancer Institute is located at the University of Utah and it meets the
highest standards for cancer care and research and receives support for its scientific attempts.
Sigma Chi takes hold of this philanthropy very well. Raising over $11,000 on February 16
through February 20, Sigma Chi exceeded all the requirements needed to fundraise for their
Neuville 5
philanthropy through the event, Derby Days. All UCF sororities participate throughout the week
to earn points in many different ways including buying plastic hats (Derbies) that can be
collected for a certain amount of points, participating in a volleyball tournament, and attending
the end of the week formal banquet. Whoever gets the most points through this process is
presented the winner of Derby Days by Sigma Chi. This is a very competitive event, but in the
All twelve sororities and eighteen fraternities at the University of Central Florida connect
through the power of philanthropies. Despite the fact that each of these houses support their own
individual cause, in the end they all work together. The support and encouragement you get
through the Greek experience is not only beneficial to the philanthropies but to the individual
members as well, giving each house the opportunity to be a part of something greater than
themselves; to truly recognize what they can accomplish when they put their minds to it and
work together for a numerous amount of amazing organizations and causes. The philanthropic
events that take place throughout the year support these great organizations, but also allow each
chapter to connect and create bonds with eachother forming relationships and memories that will
