Richard Winn also awards the Headmaster’s Award
for the highest overall average for all classes for each
grade. The Headmaster’s Award was presented to
Hannah Silvia for the 7th grade, Alexa Karoly for the
8th grade, Allison Cooke for the 9th grade, Alex Maass
for the 10th grade, and Katherine Matthews for the 11th
grade.
Richard Winn Academy inducted 11 students into the
Senior Beta Club and 5 students into the Junior Beta
Club at the 2009-2010 Academic Banquet. These stu-
dents have achieved not only academically, but they
also have good character, a genuine desire to serve
others, and they demonstrate strong leadership at
school and in their community. Eighth grade students
that were inducted into the Junior Beta Club were
Cassie Rae Cantrell, Erin Johnson, and Jordan Parris.
Ninth grade students that were inducted were Victoria
Durham and Anna Grey Walters. Inducted into the
Senior Beta Club were tenth grade students CR
Caudill, Allison Cooke, Katie Foster, Logan Gibbons,
Blake Little, Codie Revis, Katie Smith, and David
Walling. Also inducted into the Senior Beta Club
were Carol Ann Elliot and Tara Peak, eleventh graders
and John Praser, a twelfth grader.

The following 8th grade students scored at or above the
90th percentile on the subtests of the Stanford Achieve-
ment Test and were recommended by the Head of
School. The George Grice 8th Grade Scholar Award
was presented to Anna Cooke, Levi Davis, Lauren
Faust, Mason Gibbons, Alexa Karoly, Aylissa Martin,
Valerie Mattox, Cody Roberts, and Alex Scott.
The Award of Merit was awarded to the following stu-
dents for outstanding intellectual achievement in the
South Carolina Junior Scholars Identification and De-
velopment Program: Alexa Karoly and Alex Scott.
Cassie Rae Cantrell, Kirk Davis, Martin Hacker-
Mullen, Jeet Mehta, Paul Pendergrass, Logan Robin-
son, and Hannah Silvia were presented with Certifi-
cates for qualifying for the Duke University Seventh
Grade Talent Search for 2009-2010.
Students that participated in the State Literary Meet
for SCISA were presented with Certificates for Out-
standing Performance. The students that received
these Certificates were Mason Gibbons, Blair Hem-
lepp, Alexa Karoly, Katherine Matthews, Trey Padua,
Rebekah Phillips, Logan Robinson, Andy Taylor, and
Matt Taylor.
The following students were named as 2009-2010 Jun-
ior Scholars. Richie Dillingham, Katherine Matthews,
Britney Poland, Neeraj Singal, Andy Taylor, and Ivy
Wilkes were named as 2010 Coker Scholars. Andy
Taylor was named as a College of Charleston Scholar.
Katherine Matthews, Rebekah Timms and Ivey Wilkes
were presented with the Converse Junior Scholar
Award. Andy Taylor and Rebekah Timms were
named Erskine Fellows. Andy Taylor was named as a
Lander University Junior Fellow. Richie Dillingham,
Katherine Matthews, Monica Patel, Britney Poland,
Neeraj Singal, Andy Taylor, Rebekah Timms, and Ivy
Wilkes were all named 2010 Newberry College Schol-
ars. Richie Dillingham, Katherine Matthews, Britney
Poland, Neeraj Singal, and Andy Taylor were pre-
sented with the USC Union Junior Scholars of Excel-
lence. Richie Dillingham, Katherine Matthews, Andy
Taylor, Rebekah Timms, and Ivy Wilkes were named
as USC – Upstate Junior Scholars.
