Indo-Saracenic architecture: the historical dogma & its impact on contemporary Pakistani built
environment

II. Problem or Hypothesis

State precisely and clearly what you intend to investigate. (Maximum 100 words)
The project investigates how architectural historians have conceptualized the architecture
produced during British Colonial rule in the sub-continent. It is assumed that built environment
of Pakistan is the continuation of the Britains Indian Vision who ruled the sub-continent for
more than a century. The project intend to investigate the rationality of the title Indo-
Saracenic given to architecture produced during British Colonial era in the sub-continent by
the historians and orientalists. In this project the perception of space, spatial hierarchy,

 building typology, materials and construction elements will be studied to understand the
validity of the Indo-Saracenic title given to this particular style during British Raj in the
sub-continent.
