Teaching Practice Task 1 Weekly Reflections
Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the content courses EPC 3403 Practicum
3a, EPR 3003 Mathematics for the Primary School Teacher and EPR 3203 Mathematics Teaching
Methods for the Primary School Teacher. It is a reflection of how you have applied the theories
learned in the college courses.

Objective: Write your weekly reflection in paragraph form (in a blog on your wix website).
You should complete a reflection of a min. of 150 words for each week. Remember, it is
your personal account of your thoughts, feelings and reactions during your time in the
school.

You can use this table to make notes / jot down ideas during TP. It would also be helpful to
consistently reflect on your professional development. When completed you will upload your work
to your blog and add pictures to support the ideas written about.

How is Math delivered in the classroom? What were the learning outcomes taught? Were all
levels (E, D, and M) taught? How (or why not if they werent)?

How was your Math Talk during the lessons that you were teaching Math or working with
small groups?

What did you do to create and maintain a positive environment in the classroom?

How was your timing for your transitions? Did it go smoothly? Did you get caught up in what
you were doing and forget the time? Were the students noisy/calm?

How did you introduce the math centre this week? 1 day/over a few days/during other
lessons/whole class/guided groups?

How did you monitor the learning when the children were working on their activities? Did
you use rubrics? How did it go?
Did you observe any math strategies this week? Or did you teach any maths strategies? Or
did the teacher teach/use any math strategies when teaching?

In this semester I went to ishbilieah primary school for grade three and I handle grade three.
So in the first week, I didn't teach the students but I observe the MST and while I am
observed I notice a lot of the thing that I would it to use it in the future but there are
strategies that I would change it to be better. That way I will write my reflection according
to the MST.

While I am observing the math class in the first week the teacher delivered the math lesson
in the traditional way and she was following the ministry of education learning outcome that
they put it math teacher guide and the learning outcome that she put in the math lesson
plan and she make a little of differentiation sometimes she gives the students different
question that according to their level and as I said she follows the traditional but in my
opinion she should change the way of teaching strategy.

When I teach the students I use the math word the will be suitable for each level such as the
high ability I used a (Subtraction - addition) while the low ability I used (Plus-minus ) and I
were modelling some word. And sometimes when I said they didn't understand so, I
changed that to another word.

Also while I am teaching I try to give them a positive feedback because that helps them to
motivation and make them love the math. So if the student gets wrong answer I said its
okay can you try again and what I do she can ask their friend to help. I will say an example
that happens on a school in math class like one of the students called Zainab and she
answers wrong and some of the students were laughing on them I said its wrong say sorry
and she is very smart.

While I am observing the MST she didn't use any transition strategy she just keeps going and
she moves from the question to another and she just keep remind the students they should
be quite to copy the answer from the board to their book and she reminds them still we
have 1 minutes to finish because the bell will ring. In my opinion, she should be using some
of the transitions strategies will let then control in the classroom and also the students were
so noisy.
There was no math center but I was said to the MST its good to do because it helps
students to develop their skills and I was given them an example that I say in another school.
But I do a lot of differentiation in the activity.

First, I have 28 students in the classroom and I cant monitor all of them but I try my best and
I follow some strategy that helps me.Like I go to each group and check in one girl after
correcting for she, she will correct for the other students in the group every day I change the
girl and also this motivates them. Moreover, I was walking around the classroom to monitor
then and check if they need a help or not.

I observed many math lessons and while I am observed the teacher she used strategy that I
would use it in the future but with some differences to be better so the strategy is that the
teacher write four or five questions on the board about the addition then she choose
random students to go and solve the addition equation and the rest of the students observe
these students that they solve the equation and they Encourage them by saying the
students name. This good strategy because this engage the students to answer and the lead
them to competition between others. but when I will use this strategy I would to put the
question according to their level such as ( 2 question for the low ability students and I will
choose two different students that in low ability and I will do same in the medium and high).
