Lesson idea implementation:

As the standards are addressed, the teacher will provide a lesson to teach the students what qualifies
something as a living thing. Once students have learned, they will be given the opportunity to showcase what
they know in the form of a video project. The project will be introduced by showing the teacher sample that I
created and then telling the students that they are to create a video like mine to showcase both living and
nonliving things. Student learning will be assessed by viewing the videos and making sure that they were
correct in what they categorized as living and nonliving. This will tell me which students may need more help
and which ones are ready to move on.

Student learning can be extended to a higher level by having them describe the characteristics of each picture
and why it is living or not based on the identifying characteristics that we reviewed. The lesson will be
concluded by listing off all the examples that were given in student videos. Students will receive individual
feedback on their videos through individual conferences during a working time.
Importance of technology:
Using the tool iMovie is absolutely critical to the project because a video editing tool is needed to bind
together all the pictures, videos, and music files to create the final product. Without this tool, we wouldnt
have the final product at all.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity:
I see this project as a great way for students to showcase their knowledge in a creative way that they can be
proud of. Allowing them to incorporate technology into their learning will also make this project more up to
date with the times.
