5es model

The teacher can use many methods of teaching the language for children. In this essay, I will
explain the 5 ES model, which stands for (engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate). The
5 ES mean is an instructional model based on the constructivist approach to learning, which says
that learners build or construct new ideas on top of their old ideas The 5 Es. (n.d.). Furthermore,
I will explain more about 5 Es and give examples from the school from my experience during the
TP. I will also mention advantages and disadvantages.

Here I will talk about the 5Es model. The first stage is engage, this stage is to involve the student
with an event or a question, teacher should before the lesson ask them general question to extent
their knowledge and make student interest, they must to ask the teacher some questions about the
topic. Such as, why did this happen? What can I find out about this? (Explore the 5 Es of
Science. (n.d.). The purpose of this stage is engage to capture their attention and get their ideas
about this topic. For example, from my experience when I was in TP. In science lesson, they
took a new lesson, which was parts of plant. The teacher started, and asked them some questions
about the plants and where do plants grow. Student Mahra asked the teacher how plants grow. I
like Mahras question because she is thinking and she had curiosity of how plants grow or where
they grow. The second stage is explore. Explore is to get the student to engaged in the topic (The
5E Instructional Model, (n.d.)). , the student work with each other to discover the ideas through
hands-on activities and test predictions, or form new predictions (BSCS 5E Instructional Model.
(2017). The teacher should encourage the student to work, observe and listen to the students.
Also from the student, they write some of notes and ideas make new predictions and hypotheses
(Explore the 5 Es of Science. (n.d.). For example, in science lesson, they took an experiment
about things melt or does not melt. The teacher gave each group two glasses of water, spoons
and things like sugar, salt, rocks and sands. She let them explore the things that melt and does
not melt in the water. Third stage is explain. The explain is to let the student to tell their
understanding of the concepts (The 5E Instructional Model, (n.d.)). The student describe their
understating of the concepts and processes they are learning. In addition, teacher should support
them to explain their ideas using their own words and listen to critically to one anothers

explanation (5 Es Lesson Planning Packet Elementary Science, (2017).For the student, they
should to listen to their teacher explanations and use their own notes that observed in the
experience to compare between their notes of expectation and the results of the experiment
(Explore the 5 Es of Science. (n.d.). For instance, in melt or does not melt experiment, after the
student finished, she let the students share their ideas that they learned of this experiment with
her. The teacher went around each group and saw their results of this experiment. The fourth
stage is elaborate. Elaborate is this phase of the 5 E's extends students' conceptual understanding
and allows them to practice skills and behaviors The 5 Es. (n.d.). This stage is to get the student
to use their knowledge and continue to explore. The teacher supports her students to identify and
define relationships between concepts and to generate principles or rules. As well as, the teacher
encourage the student to make an exam of hypotheses and to create and justify the results and
watch the student understanding also give them the feedback (The e5 Instructional Model.
(n.d.)). For instance, in my teaching practice; I told my students to do the melt or does not melt
experiment at home and use other different things rather than salt, sugar, and sand. Also, I told
them if you experiment; show me the result of the experiment because I should see their
understanding as well as to give them the feedback. The final stage in 5es model is evaluate. The
evaluate stage for both students and teachers to determine how much that learning and
understanding have taken place (The 5E Instructional Model, (n.d.)).For instance, the science
teacher assesses the student by the end of the melt or does not melt experiment, the teacher
created a worksheet about the experiment. The worksheet was about 2 boxes, which are melt and
does not melt, and the student should to write the things thats melt and does not melt in the box.
The purpose of this work sheet is to make sure that all the students understands.

The 5ES model has advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, I will talk about some of the
advantages. Developing scientific reasoning, it means that the students improve their thinking
and their knowledge, developing practical skills, for example, the teacher should encourage the
students to introduce their skills during the lesson (5 E instructional Model with examples 5 E
lesson plan advantages. (n.d).In addition, learning retention is one of the benefits of 5es; it means
the continued possession of experiences and the skills (Alsaid, 2013). On the other hand. The
disadvantage of the 5es model is take a long time. For example, the 5ES it can take a long time
of the lesson because most of the schools, the time of one period is 45 minutes and if the teacher
use all the 5ES, it will take over of 45 minutes. Also, if the teacher wants to use the 5ES model,
she should use all the five stages of 5ES.

In conclusion, this essay was talking about the 5es model. The 5es model is one of the ways that
the teacher can use it in these days, I think the teacher who use the 5es model, her lesson will be
more organized, and she will make sure that all the students understand because she is building
the information step by step. She will see the student taking more responsibility for their
understanding and learning. In my personal opinion, I think each teacher should use the 5Es model
in her lesson, because its useful and comfortable way to make the lesson more organized.
Moreover, the 5Es model is a professional way to develop the students ideas and understanding.
