Hanks, Lisa A. "Care for the Aging Dog." Dog World 94.4 (2009): 34. MasterFILE Premier.

Web. 26 Sept. 2017.

This document briefly discusses differing ways in which one can prolong their

dog's life. Hanks gives nine ways in which to slow down a dog's aging; Maintaining

weight, regular doctors visits, and regular teeth cleaning. If not carefully paid attention to,

gum disease and jawbone disorders can come about and threaten a dog's lifespan. Hanks

explains how one dead tooth can affect a pet's immune system and lead to heart disease.

This article resonates with the main topic, in not only the prevention of aging and

diseases, but also on the information of what diseases are and how to correct them.

Harmer, Ann. "Your Pet's HEART HEALTH." Alive: Canada's Natural Health & Wellness

Magazine 388 (2015): 114-18. Alt-HealthWatch. Web. 26 Sept. 2017.

Health paragraph. It examines the ways in which to maintain optimal health from solely

brushing the pet's teeth. Harmer recommends regular dental check ups with the usual

veterinarian, however, she claims that using a canine formulated toothbrush helps a

tremendous amount by itself. The article is a phenomenal addition to the topic's main idea

of informing one about possible consequences of not taking healthy actions.

King, Marcia. "Facts Versus Fiction: Dental Health." Dog World 95.2 (2010): 36. MasterFILE

Premier. Web. 26 Sept. 2017.

This article explores the common myths and mistakes found within animal, and more

specifically, canine dental health. Facts such as Dental Diets as well as a Dog's ability to

get cavities, are listed. On the contrary, the fictions, or myths, like a dog's ability to

handle pain and canned food in opposition to dry food is discussed within the text. This

article works for the topic because of it's thorough knowledge of what can and cannot

hurt a pet's teeth. Though King displays the most information regarding health

maintenance, it barely tackles how some diseases become relevant and the consequences

of a lack of dental attention.

Kortegaard, Hanne E., Thomas Eriksen, and Vibeke Baelum. "Screening for Periodontal Disease

in Research Dogs - a Methodology Study." Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica 56.1 (2014):

77-84. Academic Search Complete. Web. 26 Sept. 2017.

This passage, composed of three different doctors, tackles the main topic of what periodontal

disease (PD) is and the study's conclusion. It gives background information, clinical

examination procedures, methods, and data analysis of information gathered. This article

also gives lots of firm examples of multiple graphs for the reader to better understand the

plethora of knowledge and data that has been researched. Although this passage lacked an

overall how to on disease prevention and disease reversal, this methodology study gave a

tremendous visual for one to understand the question at hand; what is periodontal disease

and what dogs can, and already do, possess it?

Marder, Amy. "Can Your Pet Pass an Oral Exam?" Prevention 53.1 (2001): 154. Alt-

HealthWatch. Web. 26 Sept. 2017.

This informational text goes into depth regarding a pet's oral health and ways to maintain it. It

further explains how to properly brush a dog's teeth as well as what is needed in order to

keep a healthy dental profile. Compared to the other sources, Marder compares the oral

hygiene of a human to that of a canine. A persuasion of regular veterinarian health check

ups are recommended periodically throughout this paper along with the daily inspection

of one's pet's mouth. This passage is an excellent representation of the prevention of bad

oral health in dogs in comparison to the other sources previously selected.

Tihaek-oji, Ljijana, I. Stani, and Aleksandra Jelenkovic. "Determination of the Dog Teeth

Color." Acta Veterinaria 58.5/6 (2008): 573-82. Academic Search Complete. Web. 26

The Determination of the Dog's Teeth Color is specifically written to inform those who are

reading about the awareness of the fluctuation of a dog's teeth color. The authors go into

detail about the causes and effects regarding the coloration of a dog's tooth and the

corresponding meaning of the color. Though it lacks the information surrounding how to

prevent any diseases, explained in prior sources, it varies in how a healthy tooth should

look.
