AfterconfiguringacentralSLD(and/orthelocalSAPSolutionManagerSLD)andbeforesynchronizingSLDdatawithSAPSolutionManager(in7.0:TASMSY,in7.1:TALMDB),youhavetothinkabouthow
togetdataintotheSLD.
Dependingonthecustomerssystemlandscape,youhavedifferentopportunitiesonhowtosetupyourSLDlandscape:

YoucanusearemoteSLDascentralSLDandfeedtheSAPSolutionManagerwithitsdata(optionallyviathelocalSAPSolutionManagerSLD),or
YoucanusethelocalSLDofSAPSolutionManagerascentralSLDforyourlandscape.

Forsomeapplications,likeSAPNetweaverPI,theSLDisessentialforrunning.DuringSLDdowntime,nodataupdatesforJ2EEcomponentswithinyourlandscapeareavailablefromyourSLD.Toensure
thatthemaintenanceofSAPSolutionManagerdoesnotinterferewithproductiveoperations,westronglyrecommendthatyoudonotusethelocalSLDinSAPSolutionManagerascentralruntime
SLDifyouareusingSAPNetWeaverPIorWebDynproJavaapplicationsinyoursystemlandscape.

IfyouarenotusingSAPNetWeaverPIorWebDynproJavaapplicationsandalsodonotplantodosointhenearfuture,youcanusetheSLDrunningontheSAPSolutionManagersystemascentralSLD,
asnoruntimedependenciestothisSLDexist.

ThesimplestandmostreliablewayistohaveonlyoneSLDforyourlandscape.
DataondifferentSLDsmustnotoverlap,itmustbestrictlyseparatedtoavoidconflicts.
ThecostofrunninganSLDinfrastructureincreaseswiththenumberofSLDinstances,asseveralSLDshavetobeadministrated(forexample,CRContenthastobeupdatedregularly).
Dependingonyourrequirements,youalsohavetothinkaboutsynchronizationofSLDdatastoredindifferentSLDs:TheSLDbridgecanautomaticallyforwarddatareceivedbydatasupplierstoadditional
SLDs.ButdatathatwasenteredmanuallyintooneSLD(suchasPIbusinesssystems,namereservationdata,products/softwarecomponents,etc.)hastobesynchronizedmanuallywithexport/import
functionsofSLD.
Altogether,itdependsontheactualrequirementsofalandscapelikewhatdataisrequiredinwhichSLDorhowoftenisamanualsynchronizationrequired,todecideabouttheoptimalSLDlandscape.

TomakeasystemreportitsdatatotheSLD,youhavetosetupthedatasuppliersontheASABAPandontheASJavasystem.Fordualstacksystems,maketheconfigurationonbothstacks,theABAP
stackandtheJavastackaswell.

ASABAP
TosendsysteminformationofanABAPsystem,proceedasfollows:

1.StarttransactionRZ70.
2.EnterthehostnameandthegatewayserviceofthehostrunningtheSLD.ThegatewayserviceissapgwfollowedbytheinstancenumberwheretheSAPsystemgatewayportisrunning.Usually,it
isthecentralinstanceofSAPSolutionManager.Youcancheckwhichgatewayportsareavailableinthefileetc/servicesonyouroperatingsystem.
3.ThenscheduleajobtomakesurethatthedataintheSLDisregularlyupdatedthejobrunstwiceaday.Toschedulethejob,clickDataCollectionandJobschedulingbutton.Clickthebuttonwith
thematchtoactivatethecurrentSLDconfiguration

ToconnectanASJavasystemtotheSLD,proceedasfollows:

1.StarttheVisualAdministrator.Under/usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/j2ee/admin,startthego.batoronUNIXthego.sh)withtheusersid<adm>.
2.Connectwiththedefaultconnection.
3.ChooseCluster>Server>Services>SLDDataSupplier>Runtime>HTTPSettings.
4.Entertherequireddata.
UnderHost,enterthenameofthehostwherethecorrespondingSLDruns.
UnderPort,specifytheHTTPstandardaccessportoftheSLD,whichusuallyis5<instancenumber>00.
UnderUser,specifytheJ2EEuserSLDDSUSER,whichwascreatedautomaticallyintheSLDconfigurationstep.ThisusermustbeassignedtotheDataSupplierLDsecurityrole.
UnderPassword,entertheuserspassword.Tomakesurethatyouknowthepassword,youshouldnotletitbegeneratedduringthesetupbutratherprovidethepasswordduringsetup.
5.Usetheblueflashiconontopofthepagetotestyoursettingsandtotriggerthedatatransfer

SetupSLDBridging
IfyoudecidedtoforwardthedatafromanotherSLDtotheSLDofSAPSolutionManager,setupabridgeforwardingfromtheotherSLDtotheSAPSolutionManagerSLD.Then,eachtimeasystem
updatesitsdataintheSLDthisdataisautomaticallyforwardedtoallotherSLDsthataremaintainedinthecentralSLDasbridgeforwardingpartners.

1.ToaddtheSAPSolutionManagerSLDtothecentralSLD,entertheSLDfromwhichyouwanttosenddatatoSAPSolutionManager.
2.Chooseadministration>datasuppliersandclicktheAddSLDbutton.
3.Entertheappropriateinputvalues:
UnderURL,enterhttp://<solmanhost>:<solmanport>.Theportisusually5<instanzcenumber>00.
UnderUser,entertheSLDDSUSER.
UnderPassword,enterthepasswordoftheSLDDSUSER.Asmentionedbefore,itisrecommendedtoprovidethepasswordduringthesetuptopreventthegenerationofapasswordnobody
knowsafterwards.
