Use Geogebra to investigate the following.
1 1
Explain how the graph of each function can be obtained from the graph of f(x) = () = 2. . Sketch the graph of f,
paste it at the left column, and write your observation at the right column.
2 F(x)= 1/x and g(x) = 2/x
1. f(x) =
Located in quadrants 1and 3, there are no x or y
intercepts. Domain was { x|x ER, x 0}, and the point
moved one unit, moving farther away from the origin.

3 F(x) = 1/x and g(x) = -3x

2. f(x) =
Located in quadrants 2 and 4, contains no x and y
intercepts. The graph is negative, and is the opposite of
1/x; the point is also farther away from the origin. The
domain is { x|x ER, x 0 }.

1 F(x) = 1/x and F=g(x)= 1/x+2

3. f(x) = +2
Located in quadrants 3 and 4, there is no x intercept
but the y intercept is (0, ). The points moved to
the left towards the negative infinity since it would
be (0, -2). Domain is { x|x ER, x-2}.
1 F(x) = 1/x and g(x) = 1/x-3
4. f(x) = 3
Located in quadrants 1 and 2, there is a y intercept (0, -
1/3) but no x-intercept. The points moved to the right,
approaching positive infinity, and the domain is { x|x
ER, x 3}.

1 F(x) = 1/x and g(x) = (1/x) + 1

5. f(x) = + 1

Located in quadrants 1 and 4, there are no y intercepts
but the x intercept is that of (-1,0). The domain is { x|x
ER, x0} and the points moved towards the positive y
infinity because there was a 1 added.

1
6. f(x) = 2 F(x) = 1/x and g(x) = (1/x) 2
Located in quadrants 2 and 3, the x intercept is
(1,0) and there are no y intercepts. The points
turned to negative y infinity (downwards).

2 F(x) = 1/x^2 and g(x) = -2/x^2

7. f(x) = 2
Located in quadrants 1 and 4, no x and y intercepts. The
graph moved to the opposite direction of 1/x2 since it
was negative; the domain being {x|x ER, x 0}.
1 F(x) = 1/x^2 and g(x) = 1/x^2 + 3
8. f(x) = 2 + 3
Located in quadrants 1 and 4, there are no x and y
intercepts. The graph approached positive y infinity in 3
units and the domain is { x|x ER, x0}

1 F(x) = 1/x^2 and g(x) 1/(x-3)^2

9. f(x) =
(3)2
Located in quadrant 1, there are no x or y intercepts
and the graph approached towards the right infinity.
The domain is { x|x ER, x 3}
