Personal Literacy

What is literature to a person is it a method applied by philosophers for us to comprehend

matters that we choose to deny only because the matter is too much to handle?. Or is it an escape

to another reality or plane of existence to leave behind this mess that we call a world. Also, what

about writing is a just words on a page or is it ink on paper. The answer to these questions is all

of the above. Or maybe thats the way I saw it back then when I was younger and I looked to

reading to escape the trials of the outside world. I hope to answer any and all question you the

reader may want to know of my past with Literacy and writing .

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that

your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You

belong. I always think back to this quote whenever I begin to write or whenever I begin to

reflect on my deep personal relationship with literacy which as at first lonely and isolating but it

evolved to something that made me make connections with people. My relationship with literacy

began at a very young age when my mother would take me to the library to pass the time and I

would start reading a book. To others it was an ordinary kid reading a book but to me it was

entering a whole other world where cowboys and Indians fought each other and where a kid
finds out he is a wizard and goes to wizarding school. After that, something sparked within me it

sparked a total revelation of the wonders and information books held within.

In my future of literacy I would like to take us forward to the first grade to when every

Friday the first grade teachers and the fifth grade teachers allowed their students to read to each

other. My reading partner throughout that period was Samantha I picked her for two very

important reasons the first was she was very beautiful and the second was that she was very kind

and she actually made reading . Also for some apparent reason I stuck to her like to peas in a pod

for some reason. One of the first books we ever read together was The Spy kids Game Over

novelization. I remember enjoying it so very much even though I saw the movie. Actually now

that think about I had another reading partner beforehand I remember his name was Jack i

believe he was pretty groovy he was an Leon Thomas the third type of guy.

Maya Angelou once said There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside

you. This quote has come to me in many many ways and formats the most notable way that

untold story was released was through my high school economics teachers Mr.Glidea and

Mr.Heffer. They taught me that writing is more than just words on a page its the story behind it

and to just keep writing to just keep going on. Also the talent that writing brought expanded the

story of my soul of who I am and where I am going with these ingenious talent. Also they have

taught me to search information that could be relevant to me and my research.

J.K. Rowling once said vocabulary. I live by this quote not only because its by my

favorite author but because it influences my writing and some other aspects of my life. But more

primarily on my writing. I Remember the first time I wrote for my first writing intensive class

my writing was horrendous but it showed potential to be better and to get a point across to

others. But fortunately through the Assistance Of Mr.Glidea and Mr.Heffer my style of writing

has improved significantly now I am able to write an essay or a script with efficiency and grace

with clear understanding of an certain point.

This concludes my draft of personal literacy I hope you enjoyed it and I hope this has

given you insight into my love for literature and writing .I know my forms of writing can be

incorrect or put out of context and other things but I hope to enhance my reading and writing

skills in the future. I would like to finish this essay off with a quote. Once you allow yourself to

identify with the people in a story, then you might begin to see yourself in that story even if on

the surface it's far removed from your situation. This is what I try to tell my students: this is one

great thing that literature can do - it can make us identify with situations and people far away by

Chinua Achebe.
