Measles is a disease caused
by the measles virus that
infects the nose and throat
mucous. Typically the disease
manifests in children younger
than 15 but all ages can be
infected. Since the
introduction of the MMR
vaccine in 1963, the number of
cases have decreased
dramatically. The majority of
the cases are in unvaccinated
people.
Myth: The MMR vaccine causes
autism.
Fact: No studies linking vaccines and
autism. The doctor that claimed this
was discredited and lost his license.
Myth: Measles is not a serious
disease.
Fact: Measles is the leading cause of
death globally in children.
Myth: Measles is eradicated in the
United States.

allows the measles virus to persist
everywhere, not just the United States.

Contagiousness

infected if not immune
