Dear Dr. Bruce

Over the course of the Technical Writing class, my ultimate goal was to be able to

improve my technical writing and become proficient in the skills needed to write professional

and official papers. I believe that your course, along with the Student Learning Outcomes, or

SLOs that we adhered to over the semester have helped me to accomplish that goal. I am now

writing this letter to you in an effort to prove that I have adequately grasped these concepts and

skills. To do so, I have included several of my assignments completed this semester; my personal

resume, the iFixit Charter, as well as entries from our Writers Notebook. For ease of navigation,

each assignment name will also be hyperlinked.

My resume satisfies SLOs 3 (Persuasion,) 4 (Organization,) and 5 (Language and

Design.) My resume shows my firm grasp of these concepts. The purpose of my resume was to

persuade my audience of why I deserved a position on an iFixit team, and listed my previous

relevant accomplishments and accolades in an effort to strengthen my argument and persuasion

tactics. My resume is correctly and logically organized, making it easy for the audience to read

and understand, as format can take away from the substance of a document if handled
incorrectly. Finally, my resume uses persuasive language and a simple yet effective design to

support my argument and maintain coherency as well as effectiveness.

The DustBusters iFixit Team Charter satisfies SLOs 2 (Ethical Citation,) and 6

(Collaboration.) The charter contains accurately executed citations to back up claims made in the

text, with the sources represented properly. The charter itself was an effort of collaboration,

which was a positive experience for all team members involved. The charter was created

together with all team members, and each team member edited and approved the final product

before it was submitted, making the charter itself a direct representation of collaboration.

Finally, to satisfy SLO 1 (Rhetorical Focus,) I have included the Rhetorical Triangle

Writers Notebook assignment. The Rhetorical Triangle fulfills the requirements of the SLO by

containing informal writing, making it more accessible to a wider audience. The purpose of this

document was to analyze the audience I was attempting to reach with my iFixit project, but the

skill of rhetorical focus itself is useful in a wide variety of situations.

I hope you find this project and letter useful to you in your semester-ending processes, as

I have found your class itself useful to my in both my life and other courses. Thank you for your

time both in reviewing this project and in the semester.

Sincerely,

Hannah Summy
