SHELTER FUNDING FACT SHEET

BACKGROUND CommunicAID started in 1994 when a group of concerned citizens noticed an increase in the
number of homeless in Baltimore and the lack of services provided to help them. Since then,
CommunicAID has worked hard to create and maintain a shelter dedicated to giving the
homeless of the Baltimore area a place to sleep and eat as well as help them get back on their
feet. In the past year alone the company has increased funding by $250,000, however, total
expenses have also increased by $1,750,000. This means that more homeless individuals are
using the services provided by CommunicAID but there isnt enough increase in funding to
support this growth.

PRIVATE FUNDING $3.45 million in 2017

FUNDING Support from private groups during our numerous charity nights and community events has
grown over the years, but so has the demand for the shelter and the services we provide. From
2011 to 2015, our funding numbers have been forced to grow to accommodate the steadily
rising numbers of sheltered homeless in Baltimore.

The need for a shelter of this caliber is increasing. We dont just provide a sheets and a bed but
we provide our clients with the opportunity for a lifestyle change. Through CommunicAID
clients get a space to live, a job and a support system to help them grow and transition back into
a normal routine. As such, the costs to keep our doors open are generally higher than the other
nightly shelters around the Baltimore area.
