Alay sa Bayan (Day 1)

The seminar was started by a game entitled Utos ni Boss wherein all the participants are asked
to group themselves into three, listen to the Utos ni Boss and then carry out the instructions
of the so-called boss who is the IT in the game. In this activity, it was portrayed how difficult it
is for the employees to carry out the instructions of the supervisors properly.
All participants are asked to introduce themselves to the group. However, there is a twist to it
since the participant should mention the name of the persons before him/her starting from the
beginning. Some of the participants take the notebooks provided in the kit out and started to list
down the names of their fellow participant. The speaker for the first topic to be discussed is Ms.
Lourdes Amerkhan.
It was followed by the selection of groups. The participants were asked to count 1-4 to know
their individual groups. The seating arrangements were re-arranged according to groups.
The first group activity is the setting of expectations. The speaker gave questions that each
group should answer to wit:
What do you want to learn from the program?
What can you contribute to the success of the program?
What do you expect from the resource persons, staff and fellow
participants?
What attributes do you think will enhance the training experiences?
Each group were provided with manila paper and a marker to write down their respective
answers and share them to the rest of the groups afterward.
After the group activity, Ms. Amerkhan laid down the objectives of Alab as follows:
Share ones personal history, strengths and potentials
Discuss
Be aware
Illustrate deep commitment
Formulate action plan

She also pointed out the three main points of discussion during the seminar. It is (1)Pagkatao,
(2)Pagkamamamayan, (3)Pagkakawani

The next topic is the Adult Learning wherein an assignment to be checked on the third day of
the seminar was given by the speaker. After which, the morning session of the first day of the
seminar was ended.
The afternoon session started at around 1pm. The speaker for this session is Ms. Marilyn Dujali.
She tasked each group to answer the question: Describe your experiences in government
service and present it in front.
The next activity was the Ibat-ibang Pagtingin where the five components of effective
interpersonal communication was tackled as follows:
1. Self concept
2. Listening
3. Clarity of expression
4. Copying of angry feelings
5. Self-disclosure/ Self-awareness
An acronym was also given to easily remember the concept of listening:
L - IKE TO LISTEN
I - GNORE DISTRACTIONS
S - UMMARIZE
T - AME EMOTIONS
E - LIMINATE HASTY JUDGEMENTS
N - EED TO LISTEN (BE EMPHATIC)
I - NSPIRE OPENNESS
N - EVER INTERRUPT
G - ENERATE CONCLUSIONS
The afternoon session was ended with an assignment which is to list down 3 communication
process that the participant may apply in the workplace or in real life.
